A add is coming out in the June 4th issue of the Chronicle that will buck for Calvin for the new coaching positon. I love it. What do you think about Calving coaching the rocks? Lets hear it!

Murphy is great. But I think Rich Lord said it best when he said "if Calvin gets an interview Clutch(mascot) should get one too." I love Murph where he is now next to Bill.

I've seen this option mocked previously, and I really doubt it will happen, but the more I think about it, I don't see why it couldn't work.

For example, Mr. Murphy already has a good relationship with our players (they've noted plenty of times how they've talked to him for some advice), we know he has a knowledge of the game (being that he's told us, the viewers, about sets and schemes he'd like to see the team run, which tend to be on point a majority of the time), he's willing to be stern in his comments on if the team isn't playing-to-their-potential (which makes me think of the times, during last season, where Mr. Worrell would tease Calvin by saying, "Don't you know gives you your paycheck?"), etc.

I'm not sure if Calvin even wants a coaching job (I think he loves being care-free by Bill as well), but when you think about it, he has an aura about him. I'm sure he'd know how to keep the team loose, would probably be a heck of a sound bite (for the media types), he has a great relationship with Rudy (for scouting purposes), and we'd get treated to the antics of an array of colorful suits from the sidelines. :)

In all seriousness though, to rather combine some thoughts I've seen on the BBS, how interesting would this coaching line-up be:

    Head Coach - Calvin Murphy
    Assistants- Mario Elie, Kenny Smith
Big Man's Coach- Dream or Moses Malone

Now that would be an interesting way to open the new arena. I wouldn't be surprised if road attendance to certain games went up at times to simply see the staff. :)

Like I said though, I really don't foresee this happening because..well...if they tried to get rid of Murph as the color man before...I don't know if they'd trust him with the team.

I don't think Calvin would be right for the job with this team. There is a tenuous dynamic in a player-coach relationship. A coach has to walk that fine line of being an authority figure who has the respect of the players while also being able to communicate and relate to them. I think the problem here is something that cannot be changed. Calvin's relationship with the current cast is not one of 'authority figure', for lack of a better term, instead, it is one of...well...I guess peer and friend. I know some will say that this can be changed, and that Calvin of all people will know how to get in a player's face and quickly dispell the myth that he'll be anything but firm in his handling of the team...but, having said that, I just don't see it happening. I don't doubt Calvin could be a head coach someday (if he really wants that), but the timing and the situation doesn't seem to be right.

No way. What makes him qualified to coach. He was a tough player and sure did hit his free throws, but coaching? Are we going to interview Hakeem next?

"As an announcer he has tremendous incite..."

    "Incite"??

This must be a sad, late April fools joke. Just like anything having to do with Gallery Furniture.

This won't happen. If I recall didn't Les fire both Calvin and Bill? After fan outrage, they were brought back. I don't think the relationship between Calvin and Les is that good plus Calvin is good friends with Rudy. If Rudy was pushed out why would Calvin do this?

"Call, vote, or fax to cast your vote for Calvin"

I didn't know the Rockets coaching vacancy was going to be decided by the fan vote. :p

    "Call or email"

The catch is you have to come up with the phone number and email address on your own.

    What a joke.

If Calvin is our coach, he will have our guys marching with batons and drums during halftimes at our games!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, introducing Calvin Murphy's, Houston Rockets Marching Thunder....

but then again, maybe he can add some excitement to the team and then they can announce, "Ladies and Gentlemen, introducing, Calvin Murphy's, Houston Rockets DUNKING THUNDER!!

Calvin would do it be cause he's a business man and a ladies's man. Judging by his suits often at the same time.

I was reading the Chronicle this morning, and when I saw that ad, I spit up coffee all over the newspaper. Making Calvin Murphy coach of the Rockets would be like making Milo Hamilton the manager of the Astros. Please, God, NO...but I sure would like some of what Mattress Mac is smoking!

The only reason Mac is doing this is because the Rockets are moving out of his facility later this summer and won't have the same ties with his Westside Tennis Center so he has nothing to lose.

Shut your pie hole, Mac and stick to selling overpriced recliners.
