Hakeem had an MRI on his sore right knee (he has a cyst) and will miss at least the Wolves and Cavs games. If the problem persists, he may have it scoped. (according to the Houston Chronicle)

A small, benign (not cancerous) tumor. Basically, it is a lump of cells.

When's Collier coming back? I know his game has a way to go, but he could be getting some serious minutes & experience right now. Who do ya'll think the Rockets will pick up if Dream is out for a while & Cato can't play?

Francis out top, 9 seconds on the clock, he gives a no look pass to Cuttino Mobley, 4 seconds left, Mobley passes to an open Langhi in the corner with 1 second left! Langhi at the buzzer.......YES!!! How Sweet It Is!!

That is devastating news. With no Hakeem or Cato, the Rockets have a massive hole in the middle. They are screwed, defensively. Minnesota and Cleveland should have no trouble disposing of the Rockets.

Yeah, especially since Olajuwon and Cato have been logging those 35 minute games lately.

If you hadn't noticed, we haven't really had an extremely effective Hakeem or a healthy Cato for most of the season. Even prior to the losing streak, Olajuwon was only averaging 11 points, 5 rebounds and 25 minutes per game.

By the way, no one has mentioned it lately, but what if Hakeem had to miss 4 to 6 weeks with surgery on the knee. Would that be it for the big guy?

Jeff - Perhaps the brief taste of health that Hakeem had enjoyed this year would whet his appetite to work hard to come back if he does have to get scoped. It would most assuredly be the end of his days as a Rocket. My feeling is that if he had enjoyed good health all year and made a good contribution that the Rockets may offer him a greatly reduced contract to come back for another year. If this injury stretches out at all, that idea would probably be shelved. This would be similar to the Astros situation with Caminiti. There is little doubt in my mind that had Caminiti stayed healthy all year and played at the level he was prior to getting hurt, that the Astros would have gladly picked up his option.

There are few teams out there that you need a quality center against these days. Aside from the Lakers and Spurs in the West, the Rockets don't really need a big man to compete. This year I would have rather seen a healthy Cato than a healthy Hakeem. Hakeem has shown some spurts, but he no longer has that ability to help on defense for a full game. The Rockets defensive philiosphy has always been to funnel the players to Hakeem and let him intimidate or block shots. Cato should be able to grow into that role (defensive specialist and rebounder) if he can ever get/stay healthy.

Maybe it is time for the big fella to hang it up, and for the franchise to move on.

Hakeem has been playing well as a complimentary player, but I would rather see someone hungrier getting the minutes.

A cyst is when you pass the ball to another player who immediately makes a basket...

For example, "Steve had eight a cysts against the Mavericks on Saturday"

Is anyone else getting a little frustrated at his lack of awareness, offensively? There are usually a half a dozen times a game when he would have had an easy bucket if he was looking for the ball, but instead the play results in a turnover.

dakota.. i agree about someone hungrier getting the minutes instead.

everyone has their own opinion but i peresonally just don't think hakeem has the hunger and desire anymore. he doesnt' look like he even cares half the time. clyde hung it up with some talent left. jordan hung it up. hakeem hopefully will soon before he embarasses himself
