You dont remember George Brett and the pine tar incident where he completely lost his mind for getting tossed?

RM95 - That would be ironic!

According to ESPN.com, Sosa's story is that the bat is usually used for Home Run derbies and exhibitions, and it "somehow" got mixed up with his regular bats. He says he has never used a corked bat in a major leage game before.

Of course I remember that. I thought you were implying George Brett used a corked bat.

Oh no. I was making light of the situation saying they probably hung out (both doctored the bats)

It's already been reported on ESPN Baseball Tonight that this was the same ump who tossed George Brett for too much pine tar/ pine tar above the legal area....

    It's a small world after all! :)

    Damn, beat me to it!

Maybe his bat was corked with Phil Neikro's nail file.

Corkin' Sammy Sosa! It was funny, I was listening to the Reds-Yankees game on the Reds radio feed and Joe Nuxhall and Marty Brennamen were talking about Sosa and Joe was like "people thought he was corking his body with steroids, but it looks like he was really corking his bat!" Unbelievably brutal! LOL! Sosa's image is forever tarnished.

His excuse doesn't help him any, either.

So either I think he cheated to get some of his homeruns, or MLB should investigate his all star game HR derby win at Turner Field and strip him of his trophy if his excuse is true.

You don't win points in my book for cheating even in a fan exhibitiion. They pay good money to see your natural abilities not who can cheat the best.

That's disrespecting the game if you ask me.

Thanks Sammy you continue your lousy season. First you go on the DL with a bum toe now this which is likely to lead to a suspension. You suck the big one.

The most important thing is that he'll probably be suspended a while. Maybe the 'Stros can pull out ahead of the Cubs while he's out. Someone on TV said 7-10 game suspension possible? Wow...

I hope this will hurt them, but let's face it - the Cubs were doing just fine when he was out hurt or in his slump.

The guys on Baseball Tonight seem to think it was a mistake. They also said that they took the rest of Sammys bats for analysis. Should be interesting.

Thats a big screw up. There should be a harsher penalty. For example, the team should have to forfeit the last 6 games or something. Then you wouldn't see any corked bats anymore. Baseball has to tighten up it's image.

This is as bad as Pete Rose.

I wouldnt go that far, betting on baseball will get you banned from baseball, corking your bat will get you approx a 6-7 game suspension. I`ll wait to see how the results of his other bats being investigated. If it was just one bat I would give him the benefit of the doubt that he did use it just for BP, although I do not think it`s right to use a cork bat for any purpose
