I heard this morning on the radio (Los Angeles) that Shaq had told Phil Jackson that he's coming onboard for a rigorous training offseason. He promised to lose weight and be ready for the coming season.

The news guy joked, "He'll sink the boat, but he's onboard." :D

If he drops 20-30 pounds of fat and muscles up  he needed to do something he was really looking a bit chub out there--as well as a step slow.

Yeah, I heard that too. Man, the Lakers can be damn good next season. It depends on who they will catch, but adding for example Juwan Howard will make a big difference. There's also a chance that Gary Payton will go to LA, so with for example GP, Kobe, Shaq and Howard in the starting five (that's maybe a bit unrealistic) nobody can beat them. And with Shaq in great shape! Boy. Well, we just have to wait and see...

    S.O.S.

Shaq's talked about losing weight for the past few years now, so take it with a grain of salt.

But if he's serious this time, he needs to drop at least 50 lbs. He has to be around 370-380, which is way too heavy.

Sometimes it takes losing to restart the engine, to gather motivation.

The Lakers will be the favorite to win it all next year because (1) they will reload with better role players, and (2) Kobe is even more motivated now that he felt the losing feeling.

    (3) is a wild card. If Shaq comes to camp 315 or less (or like Shaq looked in 1995) It's all over.

I think Phil Jackson is going to quit soon. He's pushing to get his 10th ring, surpassing Red. Looks like he got the mind game working on Shaq this time, getting him to forgo his "vacation time". :(

Shouldn't Shaq be doing this every offseason? Good for him. The Lakers still gotta get a better power forward....like PJ Brown, Karl Malone, or Juwan Howard. Then they can contend.

They still have the 2 best in the game.

Why in the world does Shaq's weight keep going up and up? People just say he weighs so much without and basis for saying so. He doesnt weight 370 or 380...give me a break.

Looking at Shaq this season from last season he did look noticeably bigger. I wouldn't be surprised if he was close to that weight. You gotta remember this guy is 7 ft 1. An additional 40-50 pound is not going to make as much of a difference on him as compared an average size man.

Everybody here in LA knew Shaq was overweight. Nobody knew exactly how much. There were estimations from 340 to 380. Jackson wasn't happy about it. He was also clearly not 100% motivated. And instead of blaming himself, he made lame excuses with something about working class people, and he pointed finger at his teammates for the team's poor performance at the first half of the season. That triggered some partially muffled criticisms at Shaq from some of the players.

Damn, if Shaq get in shape, it will be Lakers Dynasty all over again. Duncan and Yao are the league best hope to stop Shaq. But neither can. I remember one game when Shaq was going to the hoop, Duncan was throw off him like donuts.

GO pull up a picture for him rookie year and compare it to a current one. It will shock you how much weight he has gained, its too bad too, the guy was still powerfull, but much quicker. I shudder to think of what you could have done, had he maintained or just added muscle mass

but the only mass on him now is in his a**:D

He says he is going to lose weight and work hard every off season.

I will believe it when I see it.

He has gotten by the last 3 years being overweight.....and I don't see him changing any time soon.

I somewhat believe it. Just because LA had lost. If LA won, I would have expected Shaq to weigh 450 lbs for next year.
