I couldn't fall asleep last night for an hour thanks to images from Episode 8. When I woke up to go to the bathroom my mind replayed the images. As a reader of the books I knew the outcome but watching it on screen like that was sickeningly brutal. My wife always looks away at the really violent scenes of this show and I kept telling her, Don't look. Not yet. Not yet. Hell, only when the credits rolled was it safe for her to open her eyes. The only thing that would take away the bad taste of this scene would be a kick-ass casting for Doran Martell. (I mean, they did show Missandei naked---YES!---and the scene with Jorah was excellent. Etc etc. But God save me from re-watching the ending of this episode.)
Is there a lot about Oberyn in the books? His life prior to what's seen in the show? I miss him. Would definitely watch a spin off... So sad forever...
Well yeah, but I like him for that very reason. He's the underdog that is outsmarting everyone. He might not be the most morally sound character, but the imp, Varys, and Littlefinger are all three essentially the same, the only thing that sets Littlefinger aside is that he has ambitions that the other two lack.
My theory (for season 5). Littlefinger grooms Robin Arryn into his mold, and sets out to find allies to destroy the Lannisters (he already has the Tyrells, and now the Vale). The Martells must now hate the Lannisters even more (Elia and now Oberyn dead), they'll be itching to kick butt, so they'll join Littlefinger. Stannis is still alive and kicking, and now backed by the Iron Bank of Bravos too, I'm sure Littlefinger will forge an uneasy alliance with them. I think I just managed to hype of season 5 for myself already when season 4 hasn't even ended yet.
I don't think they are the same whatsoever. Littlefinger is an abuser. Tyrion consorts with prostitutes, but he does not rape (that we know of) and he does not use psychological abuse on women. Littlefinger has shown himself to be downright disgusting. The idea that he has any redeeming character traits is probably ridiculous at this point. He treats women like garbage, has had multiple people brutally murdered (including the prostitute Ros), has conspired in murdering a child (Bran Stark) to blame it on Tyrion, setup Ned Stark's betrayal and may be the reason he was eventually killed (did an adviser suggest to Joffrey to kill Ned that we don't know of? All the ones we saw suggested he be spared) and now he is using traditional pedophile/rapist grooming strategies on Sansa to abuse her and manipulate her to serve his purposes.
Yeah, I don't know what it is with the show's writers wanting to do this. I think this one would have been fine if they hadn't earlier bothered to do Bran/Jon a couple of episodes back.
Means to an end really, you don't think Varys would do/has done similar things? Sure the imp has more by the way of morals than the other two, but they are all pragmatists that use what advantages they have to reach their goals. They each have different advantages so they have different methods but there aren't that many differences between them. All three are incredibly dangerous people.
Yes, all three are dangerous, though I think Littlefinger and Varys far outweight Tyrion in terms of danger. Tyrion hasn't show us anything that should lead us to believe he's just a general threat to your well being unless you somehow come into conflict with him. On Varys vs Littlefinger, Varys has concern, regret, compassion, etc. He serves the relm in his mind and seems to want to put a Targ back on the throne, but he actually tried to help Ned Stark in his own way and he has done similar things for other characters. Littlefinger is the only one of the three that has shown himself to be evil in nature. He's a predator, sociopath, etc. Regardless of whether you pose any sort of threat to him, your safety is always in question when your path crosses with him.
I am so tired of the dragon lady's storyline. I couldn't care any less about what happens with her. And now they hinting at some romance between the Unsullied guy and the interpreter, and I am getting really ticked off about it. They absolutely wasted 15-20 minutes of the last episode. I hope the dragon lady dies next episode. They also dragged out the duel for two episodes, then dragged out the consequences for another episode (at least). And the Stark children never meeting up is getting really annoying as well. Don't get me wrong, I still like the show. There are just a few storylines that I would cut out entirely. The last three episodes have been quite boring, in my opinion.
Yeah I know Dany is supposed to be the "star" of the show (she and Tyrion are the most media hyped) but I just don't care for her storyline at all anymore. I like Selmy and Jorah but I wish they were involved with someone else so I didn't have to be bothered watching her scenes.
Martin already said he's his favorite character so we know he makes it through this at least. He stated this in a season 1 or 2 interview so no spoiler there.
It's funny how people spoil stuff then say it isn't a spoiler, as if everyone is following the writer's interviews or something. I really don't care but it's amusing seeing this mentality plague the thread.
