You mean Sound Exchange not Sound Warehouse? For the other, are you thinking Cactus Music? There was another one at Westheimer and Montrose that specialized in 78s, mainly for DJs.
MacFrugal's? That was something. Suncoast? National though... like Builder Square. Media Play was around for 4 days once. The local spots are the fun ones though. Local memories. Like Phoenix Comics.
the Santa Rosa theater turned pr0n theater on Telephone rd. K-marts. but nothing redeeming about that place.
Record Exchange (Westheimer and Park). Infinity Records and Tapes (Westheimer between Stanford and Whitney). Cactus Records (Alabama and Shepherd). Sound Warehouse (Shepherd and Portsmouth).
I went to many movies at the old Santa Rosa. Heck, we went to see a flick the day Carla blew in, and when we came home, a tree had fallen through my bedroom window. Dad was addicted to movies. Before it's most recent incarnation, it was briefly a concert venue. I saw the Mahavishnu Orchestra with John McLaughlin there in the spring of 1973. Peter Frampton opened, and few people knew who he was. Great concert. I thought the walls and the ceiling would crack and maybe fall on our heads, but the old girl held up. Acoustics weren't bad at all. You could nearly walk on the smoke, it was so thick!
This thread is great for the 80's/early90's kiddos like myself. All I've got is the Feed Lot or Feed Store, I think it used to be Po'Folks on 249, they had monster chicken fried steaks. This one's still around (I think) but since we're being nostalgic, Airline Skating Rink, many good times there both as a child and later as a teenager when they would have their all night lock ins. I probably rounded second base for the first time in this very place.

I have some old 16mm movies my Dad took from atop the Gulf Building, long before they put that revolving sign up there. He was up there with Mom and some friends, laughing and filming sweeping views of a vastly different city. I think they snuck up there. It was before Pearl Harbor, in 1940 or '41. Mom and Dad went to many dances at that hotel. I got to swim in the pool a couple of times. It was huge!
Is it sad that I remember the jingle: Sea-Arama Marine World On sunny Galveston Isle Where the citizens of the sea, entertain you constantly With cute and clever ways to make you Smile-ile-ile-ile...
Was gonna post this. Remember my brothers coming home in the middle of the night with their clothes soaked after coin gathering expedition in the wishing fountain above.
