It does put him in exclusive company. Joey Lawrence is the other actor that can make this claim. Hmm, a Keanu/Joey movie .... bbl. :D

Also, is it any surprise that the MadMax's first date with his wife was a vampire flick, considering his career as a blood-sucking lawyer? ;)

I would equate Keanu to Hugh Grant...they both really don't know how to act as much as they try to look good in front of the camera. I would say they came from the same acting school. Hugh has many times admitted he doesn't really know how to act.

I liked evil Keanu in The Watcher.

    His band sucks too. :D

Man, I thought I was the only one who has never seen either movie. When ever I tell people I've never seen that movie, they look at me as if I just farted the alphabet!

Keanu was very good in Gus Van Sant's My Own Private Idaho. He and River Phoenix play male prostitutes.

Hugo Weaving made the Matrix, and Matrix Reloaded. You want to see a fantastic actor, rent out some of his old movies. He absolutely stole every scene in the Matrix (& Reloaded).

While I have seen several movies starring Keanu Reeves, I have to pass on this poll, as I have yet to see the man 'act'. But I will comment as soon as that unlikely event occurs.

I'm still going to say that Keanu was the perfect person for this role. He wasn't supposed to show much emotion in the movie like Hugo Weaving. Agent Smith represented a computer turning part-human, while Neo represented a human turning part-computer.

    Smeg,

You do know that you quoted ROXRAN's post about Keanu being a "great" actor and then provided a filmography of Hugo Weaving?

i'm not one to watch a movie very critically and i never really thought of whether keanu was good or not (though i would've leaned to not), but i watched matrix reloaded for a third time (along with jurassic park, the only movie i've ever seen 3x in a theater), and tried to see if he was a good actor. i would say he's passable. he wasn't great, but he didn't take anything away from the movie i thought, but then again this isn't a role you really need great acting to fill. i would say the movie's make him famous more than his acting, but he must do some sort of decent job of being a star to keep getting roles in big movies.

as far as van damme or vin diesel being Neo, i can completely NOT see that. it may just be that reeves is too ingrained as Neo at this point for me (although i really didn't pay that much attention to the original matrix so he's not that ingrained), but he seems much much more fitted to the role than those two. imo, you don't want Neo to be the typical arnold/stallone/van damme/diesel superhero who is big and strong and who you know is gonna kick everyone's ass. and i really don't think you want someone with that reputation. their rep would steal from the overall movie i think. it's not about the star Neo, it's about the whole movie. plus Neo is just supposed to be some ordinary guy from the Matrix who becomes The One, not a hero type that you just know is gonna kick ass. two other things, he plays into the whole "your muscles are useless in the matrix" thing from the first one and he's lean and limber enough to pull off all the fight scenes and make it aesthetically pleasing. i so cannot see diesel (or even van damme) making the fighting look as good. it's why morpheus doesn't look as cool as neo fighting, he's more stocky.

as for no R rated movie passing $235M, wow. i would've thought saving private ryan did it. i'm definitely surprised at the huge dropoff for reloaded the last two weeks. usually the drop off is in the 50% range but these have been right at 60%. all blockbusters have massive opening these days, most don't drop 60%. NYKRule said it got bad reviews, but i didn't seem to hear that. and as far as word of mouth, almost everyone seems to have loved it. it had a 188 post thread about it on this website, and most people said it lived up the unbelievable hype. so the dropoff does seem surprising, though being the highest grossing R movie is consolation i guess.

and one final thing, anyone else read page 2 of section A of the chronicle this sunday? it said keanu is getting 15% of the box office draw of reloaded and revolutions! how the hell did he get that contract? did he get it right after filming of the first before they knew what this would become, or did he have so much leverage he could ask for this, or did he have naked photos of people? they say the two are expected to make $750M worldwide, meaning he'll take in over $100M when it's all said and done. $50M per movie, that's insane. but then the more insane part is they said he's gonna donate probably about $80M of it to various charities. he said he's already got enough money from his other movies so why does he need even more. pretty cool gesture. but again, how did he negotiate 15% of the gross? i want his agent at my job interviews from now on.

Mrs. Valdez and Mrs. JB are out of their f4cking minds. Keanu is totally hot.

I hate threads thatask for a definitive answer on a subjective question.

Like about half of the movie roles out there, I would suggest Edward Norton to play Neo.

You know, I was just on the treadmill thinking about who could else could play Neo (what the hell else is there to do on a treadmill?). And I came up with Wes Bentley -- he played Ricky in American Beauty. He's got that dark, brooding outsider thing going. Plus, the boy can act.

P.S. I think Edward Norton is a pretty good suggestion, too.

While I don't think it would be hard to find an actor with talent that could have replaced Keanu Reeves, I don't think Norton or Depp or the other suggestions would have worked. I think the reason Reeves was appropriate was because he has a lithe, athletic body that fits the genre well. Norton and Depp -- both good actors -- look like they'd probably get winded climbing a flight of stairs.

Btw, I think Reloaded saw a big decline because the movie sucked. I'm sure the 15 year old audience was very happy with it, but when it is rated-R, you have to suck a little less badly.

I don't know, they both seem like they've been able to get in good shape if the role requires it. That said, I can't really picture Johnny Depp doing martial arts. Which is funny, because I can picture him doing so many other things ... ;)

    I dont think he is a great actor, but he defines the role of Neo. He does a good job in The Matrix {1 & 2}
He`s had a quite a few stinkers but the Matrix is not one of them.
