He isn't going to say much. This is what he will say: 1) He will preach about patience, 2) How they are taking their time to make sure they hire the right guy, 3) Moving onto the second phase of the interview process 4) No clear cut favorite right now
Prepare to listen to the most boring interview ever... If he were to leak something out, you'll definitely be hearing it first on 610...the Rockets official station...
Here is a transcription of the interview. I cant type extremly fast, but I tried to get the most important parts... 740-we are thankful your with us we know your busy CD-its slowed up a little over the weekend 740-clarify the status of the coaching search CD-we had a good week last week, i mentioned the huge turnout many times last week. we still feel good about the 2 that are left. my next step is to go to Chicago tomorrow for the rules commitee. Well keep working on the best fit. 740-Your focus is on these 2 guys not Rick Carlile? CD-Yea, 5 guys call me a day. It would be hard to stop our process because more people become free. It would be hard to lose ground because more people become open. (sounds like he is afraid to lose the remaining 2) 740-What do you like about JVG and Leavy? CD-I knew Mike very well, I knew him as a player. Jeff I knew him but knew him least. It was intresting talking philosophy with them. It was intresting to see what they thought it would take. It was intresting to see how personel JVG comes across. Most people dont realize JVG has the most winning % of all 4 we were lookin at. Hes been sucessful and coached good guards and a big man in NY. Everyone finds intrest in our team in Yao Ming and the guards and our young guys in Mo, Eddie and Posey. We were happy to interview 4 vet coaches that know how to win. All of these guys are capable. 740-How do you respond to the criticism on LB? CD-the right fit is what we have to do for this team. We heard LB was going to Washington (LB was going to Washington?!?!?) we felt we would lose the other 3 if we went after him. Eveyone was wondering when we would talk to them 2nd time, but we still didnt finish talking to the people we want the first time yet (mentioned Silas). Rushing out there and getting the wrong guy is the worst thing you could do. 740-How much input does Francis have? Cd-we listen to the players. they want someone who will win. They like the 4. They may have a slight favorite. 740-You only have 2 left do you feel urgency? CD-Well, we need to try to figure who we want and get them. Urgency is critical to get the summer months started for workouts and summer leauge, individual workouts are critical for the younger players. In that vein it is urgent to get the coaches input. What we need to add, what we need to do. We just dont want to get the wrong guy.(doesnt sound like last week) 740-any contact with John Lucas? CD-No 740-You have had any 2nd contact with Leavy or JVG CD-I havent. It wont be tomorrow, but after that we plan to get that started. 740-How about an update on Rudy? CD-Hes fine he changed his diet. He hopes to be cancer free and back in a few weeks. 22 years later hes back scouting with us, thats ironic. He has a lot of willpower. 740-I asked you about drafting Yao and you said this is the guy, and he is the guy, so I wont jump on you too much about who you pick for headcoach. Thanks for being with us. CD-Thanks after the interview.... 740-Sounds like Leavy is the guy for the job as he mentioned used to be a Rocket. No 2nd interviews have been made. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Overall CD sounded kind of depressed. I was suprised he wasnt playing it off. He sounded upset that LB and/or Silas got away, but he kept talking like all the 4 canidates were still available (CD in denial?). Then the host polietly reminded him 2 were gone. I guess this just confirms the bad news that LB and Silas got away.
Thanks for the transcript. Well, its seems that CD was praising JVG more than MD. He didn't say much about MD> Then again, that probably doesn't mean much.
yea it did seem that he praised JVG more. i think he knows he's leading the polls, but then after the interview 740 played it off and made Leavy seem like the lead canidate.
A week agoish I posted a thread that CD is a joke, and a lot of people didn't see it that way. He is useless, and afraid to make a move. Instead of pretending that Rudy stepped down because of his illness, Les should have stepped up and cleaned house. CD is sitting on his hands and allowing the competition to dictate the pace. It is so, so sad.
it looks like one of the tie's they make you wear at the olive garden mmmm........ atrocious...........
It's probably unfair to say that, but...anybody with that kind of glasses and that tie and that expression on his face and that way of handling the search for a new coach should step aside and enjoy his retirement...
How is that? Ok, they didn't get Brown, for whatever reason. Did they get outbid? Maybe. Others say his family didn't want to move to the south. Maybe he realized that the Detroit team has a clearer path to the finals. I'm a Rockets fan and even I think that is a better job. They are a playoff team with a #2 pick...a pick that will likely land a stud from all accounts. They didn't want Silas, he wasn't offered the job. 2 of their top 3 candidates remain available. Dunleavy has already stated he wants the job and won't take another until he's been eliminated. Van Gundy? I have no idea what he wants. Channel 2 reported that he was making calls finding out about the state tax situation in Texas so obviously he interested. I hardley call that letting the "competition dictate the pace".
This is a joke, right? So... if Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, and Byron Scott become available tomorrow, the choice will still be between Dunleavy vs. Van Gundy? I don't understand this. How long does it take to call up Carlisle and have a conversation with the guy and feel him out? I'm dumbfounded here. If Carlisle is NOT right for the organization, just freaking say so. Everybody and their mother knows it's a two horse race now, anyway. For the love of God, Carroll, be forthcoming about something. So much for making a run at Don (or Donnie) Nelson, eh? Anybody want to place bets as to the identities of the other 3 who call everyday about the job (assuming 2 of the 5 are JVG and Dunleavy)? I'm thinking 1) Rudy T ("I feel much better now. No really, I do..."), 2) Kenny Smith ("I made Barkley kiss a donkey on live TV for you guys"), and 3) Mattress Mac ("I'll give you $5 billion to become head coach... No, make it $6 billion...").
