Screw It! Lets just re-hire Rudy

Screw this! This coach search is not going well at all. No Brown (everyones' #1 guy), no Silas (my #2 guy) and now on ESPN D.Aldridge is saying Van Gundy might sit out another year and try for the Lakers or Mavs job. That would leave us w/ Carlile (who isn't that bad but has no imagination offensively as well as being a longshot for us anyway) and Mike freakin Dunleavy. The last game that guy coached was one of the biggest choke jobs in NBA playoff history and he did it w/ a bunch of veterans! I don't know, I do think he is a solid coach (got the Lakers to the Finals in '91) but that Blazer choke job makes me very nervous.

I was very hard on Rudy for his lack of an offensive system but he was always good w/ players and getting them to play hard for him he just needed some assistants that were more X and O guys like Don Nelson surronding himself w/ in Dallas. I am really worrired that the Rox are about to get serriously screwed this offseason but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything will work out.

Brown's reasons for going to Detroit are sound: 1) more $$$$ and 2) playoff caliber team with impact draft pick upcoming. Who can really criticize that?

Silas was never considered a favorite here. In Cleveland, he gets LeBron James. Who can criticize that?

It is equally important to get someone who is capable and who really wants to be here.

All I know is that as of RIGHT NOW, we are in trouble and I don't know if Dunleavy is that much of an improvement over Rudy.

You do know that Mike wasn't responsible for putting the ball in the basket in that game, right?

Let's see...you've got perennial chokers Pippen and Wallace as your two best players...you lose in 7 games to the Lakers, who have the 2 best players on the court. You win 59 games. You win 70 percent of your games the preceding year, with JR Rider starting. Umm, must be the coach's fault?

Freak, I'm not saying he's a bad coach at all. I'm just saying the last game he coached in the NBA, the team chocked which is not good. I like Dunleavy though because his offense would be better than what we had last year if nothing else. I still miss Rudy though.

The coach is not allowed to play in the game. He didn't choke the players did. That team may have had a chance if he did play. He was a smart player and is a smart coach.

    Damn I like Dunleavy okay!

Coaches to play a role in teams chocking though. If I remeber correctly, the first half of the 4th the Blazers did nothing but take outside jumpers, they offense lost cohesivness and it is the coaches job to get players back on track. Dunleavy didn't make any substitutions to try and shake things up and by the time he tired anything, the Lakers momentum had taken over and the game was virtually over. That loss by no means is all on Dunleavy but it does shoulder some responsibility as all coaches do. If they didn't Scew it, the Rox don't even need a coach b/c he will not be taking and jumbers or grabbing any rebounds.

I like Dunleavy as a coach, that whole incident just makes me a little nervous thats it. I won't be upset if they hire him.

this is all making me crack up because when Rudy "stepped down" and you were all so excited, nobody even knew Brown was going to leave the Sixers. He wasn't even mentioned as a possibility. Silas never had any serious consideration. Who were the first two coaches we interviewed? Dunleavy and Van Gundy. Who is still out there? Dunleavy and Van Gundy. It seems like Brown going to Detroit has some of you in a panic. I don't get it. All year long there was so much criticism of Rudy and now some of you are actually suggesting we get him back? I'm sorry but that's just too damn funny.

I'm one of the few here who has no desire to see Van Gundy coach the Rockets but I'll be content with Mike Dunleavy. I am also among the many who thinks the Rockets should at least interview Rick Carlisle, but apparently he isn't even being considered. I'm also not completely convinced that the Rockets aren't holding out for somebody in particular to step down. Who? I don't know. But if they were truly happy with Dunleavy or Van Gundy I want to know why there hasn't been an offer made. I know they claim to be in no rush, but if these guys are their two favorites, I really don't see why it's so hard to pick one and draw up the contract. It doesn't seem very complicated to me. (but then, I've never worked in the front office of a basketball team)

I'll be the 1st to admit that I was critical of Rudy's offensive philosophy. I never wanted Rudy to leave, I just wanted him to get some new assistants maybe and offensive wiz or something. This coaching merry-go-round has been just that so I think we should all be nervous about how the Rox have handeled this situation thus far, I just hope everything works out..

Rudy will be a scout or moved to the front office. He's a better "behind the scenes" guy. He not good in front of people or when the spotlight is on him (He cowers and looks at the floor; hates to look people in the eyes when talking to you). He's not what we need in a "head coach."

Rudy is just fine in the background.
    He does that best.
