I think Morey would let him go in a heartbeat for a mid first rounder. Honestly I just don't see many GMs inquiring about his availability.

Do we still see Beverley as an elite defender after the Portland series?

I wouldn't give but a high second pick for him.

To be fair...dude had a bum knee and a high fever. The Portland series is hardly a good indicator of Bev's game.

Having said that...Bev isn't worth a first rounder, IMO.

Also need to consider the depth of the draft. 18th pick from 2 years ago is probably 2nd rounder worth in this year's deep draft. But yeah, TJones was a good pick.

The perception of talent in this draft is dropping fast. Last year at 18 I remember wanting Sullinger(still on the board) and the Rockets drafted Jones. I can't imagine getting a talent level of either player in the 2nd round this year. Not even with the 31st pick.

I love Bev as much as the next guy but man he's overrated on this board.

He lacks vision, can't create, below average handles, lacks a jumper and he has 2 very predictable go-to moves on the offensive end. Shoot the 3 or drive for the floater.

Of course his defense, effort and heart make up for a lot of shortcomings but he's best suited off the bench as a change of pace guy. He is not worth a first rounder in THIS draft. Maybe last years.

He reminds me a lot of a certain "No Stats All-Star" from a few years ago in terms of what he brings to the table, limitations and his general perception on this board.

This exactly why I was against Bev coming back to play after that torn meniscus. Because idiots judge him as if he were healthy and playing injury free, when it's clearly not the case.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. If the Rockets had some kind of clear indication that the team of Lin and Canaan could easily support us, or maybe they somehow bring in a clear cut PG (Rondo or DWill) the price for Bev is too low. Bev's contract is cap friendly and for what he provides a pick doesn't really balance out. Plus, team's looking to pick up someone like Beverly most likely have a lot of pieces already in place. This means those teams respective picks will most likely be between 20-30, at that point is it even worth trading Bev?

He was also hospitalized during that series too, but let's overlook that as well and use a 6 game sample to identify our issues at PG.

Isn't that what we do to Lin?

True, I mean come on, we expect Lin to play well based on the small sample size that was Linsanity. That's unfair, what we should expect of Lin is to be unpredictable and inconsistent, that's what he has shown us time after time. Moments of brilliance, moments of sheer stupidity, that's the Lin we really should see.

I am sorry to say this, but we were a joke against Portland with Beverley. In the regular season we may get away with it, but in the play-offs Beverley should be a bench player for us period. We all want Kevin Love and Carmelo Anthony, but our biggest need is at the point guard position by far. Rajon may not be the guy, but you have to revisit the idea of having him on this team in the off-season.

You need to look at the rest of the class, not special cases. Jones was a steal at 18.

First of all, Chase Budinger is Chase Budinger. He was considered a backup on the Rockets team that wasn't even gonna be average. Also, I was speaking of players value AT THE TIME of the draft. Sullinger and PJ3 were most certainly very highly rated going in at least. Not sure about the others since I'm not a draft expert.

But even if you use hindsight, Jones, Nickelson, Fournier, Sullinger, Plumlee all look to be rotational guys at least in the NBA, if not more.

Yes. Not the sexiest of trades but if you are team with 18+ and need PG help/perimeter D and are generally looking to compete now you pull that trigger because the odds are overwhelmingly that Bev will be better than your pick.

The issue with this is that, as well know, draft picks are the currency of the NBA and have tremendous value until they are made.

The scenario would be something Battier-like where it would be made the day of the draft the player the team is targeting (or players) dont fall to them.
