Have used an old version for years and it does not seem to like Windows 8.1 (well neither do I really). Anyways it's $300 for the standard version of Adobe now and I am not looking to spend that much.

Anyone have any alternatives that work really well to mark up .pdf files easily (add text, etc...) and create .pdf from other programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.). It does not necessarily need to be free but not looking to spend $300 either.

    Thanks!

WORD already lets you export as PDF.

Make your document in Word, export. Have you tried that?

pretty sure exporting to pdf from word is some sort of addon, unless you have a pdf writer like cute pdf.

Are you looking to mark up ALREADY-CREATED PDF files, or creating them from another program like Word? Those are two different tasks. Word can do the latter.
 pretty sure it is not.

I think you can do this via Google Drive as well. (Converting from Word to PDF)

Mostly add text, insert and extract pages, etc. from already existing files. The occasional need to go from Word or Excel to .pdf.

Nuance has an alternative to Acrobat called Power PDF Pro and Standard. Costs $99 for Standard and $149 for the Pro version.

But folks are correct, if all you need to do is to covert a Word document to a PDF , all you need is to save the file in pdf format. No add-on is needed.
