I'm assuming there is an unspoken deal between McHale and the Rockets at this point. Namely, that the Rockets are hoping for some help from McHale in the recruiting of Love or others, and in turn McHale gets at least one more season to prove his value as a coach.

 

Yes he's a better rebounder than Asik. Remember that 30 rebound game he had awhile back? I can pretty much tell you don't watch much NBA ball outside of the Houston Rockets.

They should place Mchale in a front office position and be the face of Rockets Org alongside Dwight, Howard, Les and Morey.

When it comes to recruitment, he can obviously charm players and he'd be more convincing since he's a basketball player, unlike Morey who has the reputation of being a stats guy/superstar poacher (not that I don't love him for this, maybe some people doesn't like the way he runs his show, but for me I think he's done a lot of good things during his tenure and the only fault I could find in him is maybe not investing in a reliable coach earlier in Harden's career as a Rocket).

A lot of these players always look up to their seniors. So Mchale obviously has that pull towards the younger generation of players.

Then, after promoting Mchale to that position, Rockets should pursue the coach it deserves.
