heyp: Was wondering if you saw that new wrinkle for Mo. It is basically the same post up play they use with the back pick set for Francis or Anderson to come through baseline, get the ball from the top of the key and then pass to Mo in the block.

The wrinkle: instead of going to the wing then to the block, the guy at the top gives the ball to Mo left of the lane at the free throw line. He can then go out to the wing and go deeper in the block, face up and take his man (which he seemed to prefer to do) or look for the cutting wing man going back door.

Pretty interesting play call. They called it about 3 or 4 times in the first half and it worked just about every time because it allowed Taylor to be agressive AND gave him options...

    1. Pass to the wing and go deeper in the post.
    2. Pass to the wing and set a pick.
    3. Pass to the wing man cutting back door.
    4. Face up his man one-on-one. The spacing for this is ideal because the wing man being where he is essentially forces his guy to double thus opening the back door or stay at home leaving Taylor one on one.
    5. Take one dribble and post up with his back to his man.

This seems to be the traditional post up but it gives a guy like Mo who thrives facing up the option to read the defense and react.

    Thoughts?

    disclaimer: I am not heypartner

I can't figure out what play you're talking about from your description. Can you give me an idea what time in the game it happened so I check it out on tape?

It was in the first quarter I believe. Mo got at least 4 of his points off of it.

This sounds like the basic entry to Mo. I'm not following the "new wrinkle". Francis does not make this entry to Mo; Walt usually does. Francis passes to Walt, first, before the baseline clear-out. And Francis is generally weakside by the time Mo gets the ball. Francis running passed Mo before Walt passes the ball is simply insurance to prevent the defense from denying the pass to Mo.

The reason I've never mentioned the Mo ISO (as jamcracker calls it) a play yet, because we just haven't seen *any* options. Right now, the defenses are showing little concern for this Mo entry and are not doubling it. So, Mo just shoots. Until defenses show a concern for stopping Mo from shooting to the point of doubling, we won't see any ball movement out of it, which is part of my criteria for choosing a play to Flash.

Actually, LA did double Mo in the 4th. And he passively passed out of it for an around-the-horn, not much to show there.

I could draw this up, but I have not seen any options executed, yet, so right now option ideas are pure speculation.

Wasn't really asking you to draw it up, just wondering if you had seen it. Francis did not remain weakside when I saw it, he was strong side.

...wasn't suggesting to draw it up, just stating my criteria for when I go beyond calling something an ISO vs a "new play".

I guess I'm not following this "new wrinkle" description? Thought I was until you said Francis was on the strong side.

Jeff, mark the times you see Francis on the strong-side when Mo has the ball. I'm making a tape, and would love to take a look.

    thx!
