Should he be under consideration as Rocket's Head Coach, now that Larry Brown and Paul Silas are unavailable? How does he rank compared to the other two guys in the hunt, Jeff Van Gundy and Mike Dunleavy? Opinions please.
Brown has many years and many accolades throughout his career. Carlisle has been a 50+ win coach both years he's coached and named Coach of the Year. Most importantly is that Carlisle beat Brown in the playoffs this year with a lesser talented team in my opinion. Take what you want from that. The only reason though he's not considered first tier is because of the fact that he only has 2 years under his belt.
Carlisle looks like he made a lot out of little to work with. I feel like he could be the guy this team needs. Also, he is young, so that might make it easier to respect CD and RT as his bosses. RT could be something like a mentor to this guy and help scouting etc. I would prefer having Carlisle.
I keep hearing reports that Carlisle didn't get along with a lot of people in Detroit, not just players, but front office staff members, trainers, everyone. I don't know if that will go over well with the Rockets. As far as coaching ability, I like Carlisle. He got the most out of Billups out of any coach he's ever had. He not only gets the most out of his players on defense but offense as well. All Van Gundy did was get the Knicks to the Finals in a strike shortened season. Then he quit on them. If San Antonio has an asterik by their first championship, New York should also have one for making the Finals as the opponent.
