Did they ever name the PTBN? If it's someone like Story, Herrera, McMahon, or Tapia then we might still break even on this trade.

Lyles finally go hammered today. Season ERA up to 3.50.

Fowler meanwhile is up to .265/.372/.388.

That's called luck, Jordan, and it's already starting to turn the other way. Sample size, regression to mean, etc.

It could just be growth - he's only 23. In past years, BAA has been far worse with RISP than when no one is on (80 pts higher the last 2 years). This year, it's basically the same. So it's not that's been outstanding with RISP - he just has not been terrible. That's not unreasonable to sustain.

I imagine both sides are pretty happy with the trade so far. Astros need offense and have a long list of potential pitchers. Fowler immediately becomes one of their best offensive players. Rockies have too many outfielders - they replaced Fowler with Charlie Blackmon, who's having an incredible season, and they have the best offense in MLB so far. They needed pitching and Lyles has kept them in every game except one or two this season and they've won 6 of his 9 starts.

She looks like Molly Qerim off NFL Network.

I haven't been up to date with the newest stats and theories. But wouldn't BAA be higher with RISP in general because pitchers have to pitch to the hitter?

Not really sure, to be honest. I just looked up the career stats of a few long-term pitchers (Kershaw, Oswalt, Verlander, Greinke). They are all great pitchers, so no idea if that's representative but I wanted to pick pitchers with huge sample sizes. All of them have BAA with RISP essentially the same as without runners on.

Those are all strikeout pitchers with incredible stuff. Lyles is a control guy and with RISP, hitters know he is going to bring that soft stuff in the zone.

OK - who would you consider a good comparison? I looked Tim Hudson, a non-K guy, and same thing. Jamie Moyer had a BAA about 10 pts higher with people on base over a gazillion year career.

I suspect you'd have a hard time finding someone with a BAA 80+ pts higher over an extended career like Lyles had the last two years.

I certainly wouldn't send Fowler back to Colorado for Lyles

Enough to cover a fraction of the lawyer fees in the ongoing CSN debacle.
