Harden is a flawed all-star type of player but it's still too much of a gamble to trade him for unknowns.

It is a strategy that can be very successful. SF's are the most versatile position on the floor.

Possibility only IF we do not have Howard who is 29. He does not have time waiting for the next superstar.

You either get Lebron, Durant, Curry+ Package, Paul, Rondo

With that being said, without Howard absolutely why not.

Grooming the next star without having to pay him max in his first years is fun!

I thought he was supposed to be a lebron level prospect, but he doesn't live up to the hype.

This is a dumb thread You do not trade a top 5 young star in the NBA for an unproven talent. Come on people give me a break. Harden, Howard, and Kevin Durant will be the next big 3 in the NBA. We need to be patient and let Kevin Durant leave OKC.

Disliked Harden before the playoffs, now, I kinda hate him. His weak offense in the postseason has little to do with it.

Still cheer for him though because he's on my squad.

You guys do realize that a team drafting either of these guys is HOPING that one day(like in 4 years) any prospect they take in draft will be as good as James Harden or frankly even just be an all star caliber player right?

The delusion of the GARM nowadays is out of control.

Totally trade. We get someone who can be very great on that rookie contract for 4 years and then sign another max guy.. and another next year.

    Dwight
    Wiggins
    MAX GUY
    MAX GUY
    Parsons

    * this doesn't work if the max guys are Joe Johnson and Deron Williams

That is true. But I would assume the salary cap space we free up would allow us to basically sign another all star.

And why are other stars that are in "win-now" mode wanting to join a team that just showed their best player and a popular player in the league the door for a guy that might never amount to anything beyond a role player? Its a team that was on the verge of being a contender that just traded its best player. How are you in any better of a situation to compete for a championship if not in a worse place.

Sorry but if a max player type is joining the Rockets, its TO PLAY WITH HARDEN and Howard. Not to play with Howard and a rookie with a world of expectations.

People really need to put their frustration with Harden's matador defense aside for a second and think about what they are really suggesting first.

I would definitely consider trading Harden for Wiggins (I wouldn't trade Harden for many players, but I think Wiggins is the real deal), but because of Dwight's age I don't think I would do it. I would probably trade Dwight for him though, and then build around Harden & Wiggins (while keeping Asik to play C).

Yeah, but would you trade Joe Johnson for Greg Oden in 07-08 season, one can play that game.

People sound like there is some sort of gurantee that a top 3 prospect is automatically a superstar when history have proven that projections are merely just projections.

Yeah it's easy to say in hindsight about Durant, but you could've easily have gotten Greg Oden, or Bargnani, or Evan Turner or Beasley etc etc
