based off the 4th quarter...scary to see that every other 2014 Western conference playoff team was ahead of the Rockets. Collapsing down the stretch has now become a Rocket/Mchale trademark. Something must change this offseason.
Wasn't just a Rocket/McHale trend. It always seems to be a thing with the Houston Rockets. I remember when we had Adelman, fostering a lineup of Speed Racer, Argentinian Tango and Bull-dog, Switchblade and Chuckwagon. We'd get the lead and gradually lose it in the 4th quarter. Then again, that was probably just a lack in talent to finish the game.
http://www.82games.com/1213/12TOR3.HTM Under Clutch Statistics, unless I misunderstood what the numbers are saying, he's not that accurate or efficient.
Is this based only on point differential? So, Toronto could of just made a lot of comebacks in the 4th? yeah..and Harden already is #1 in points scored, beverly tied for first with 0 turnovers
Net Rating is not necessarily a good indicator as it can be misleading. If a team is up by 20 entering the 4th Quarter and ends up winning the game by 10 then the winning team ends up with a -10 in the 4th quarter and the losing team ends up with a +10.
My guess is that it's not only a matter of who's playing in the 4th quarter but also how you play it. When the opponent tightens up defense, can you execute your own brand offense consistently? Can you also tighten up your own defense consistently? Answers to these questions need to be sought before trying to find one or two substitute players. I believe the coaching team, or maybe Morey himself, need to change/execute some of their philosophy before personnel changes. That's why I think adding one or two assistant coaches might not cut it. Will changing one or two players cut it? I strongly doubt it.
We need another playmaker or post player and a shooter. Right now, only Harden is willing (can?) make a move to score or create. Everyone else waits. Having Dwight on 2014 playoff mode certainly will help, but he's still not solid enough in the post. Parson needs to get to the point where we can go to him in the closing seconds sometimes. That means becoming more comfortable with his handle and developing some kind of go-to move. If he can't, then he needs to move on.
Commodore, special request. Would there be any way you could re-run this looking at point differential just among teams over .500 playing against each other? Or could you run run this by eliminating all data of games played involving Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Orlando, Boston, Utah, Lakers, Sacramento, New Orleans, and Denver. Eliminate all data involving teams that weren't trying to win.

In other words, we sucks in the clutch. Isn't this a problem for us for a few seasons in a row now? And actually, haven't we also been horrible in the latter part of the season... we seems to not only collapse in the 4Q but toward the last quarter of the season for a few seasons now. Defense certainly part of it, but I think our offense pretty consistently collapse late (ISO mode).
This is EXACTLY the problem, IMO. Harden is not Durant, LeBron, or Kobe in his prime, at least not there yet. You just can't allow the team to play like that (Everyone else waits.) in the fourth quarter. The Spurs swing the ball so well that they easily closed out the Blazers without their best player, Tony Parker. Rockets might need a tough defensive wing player like Artest. Other than that I see them being good enough on the paper to go very deep in the playoffs. It's the problem of philosophy that let the Rockets down, a philosophy of from either the head coach or Morey.
Am curious to know since Morey is a stats guy and all about analytics , how the hell is he bringing back Mchale for next season...? just doesn't make sense...!!
Stats told him coaching doesn't really matter and more importantly, there are very few coaches that would actually allow him to dictate team play.
