Luke Walton is a good candidate either as assistant of head coach. I admire what Phil is doing, no big names. Most good coaches are usually those who are under the radar. I think Luke will be one of them.
Eh. Look at the shots the team is making, they aren't easy shots. A lot of the points they score are linked to their talent, not coaching. They make contested threes like they are going out of style. Meanwhile, the Rockets make easy shots. Their scheme nets them easier good shots. I think if we had some of the warriors talent, or the warriors had some of our direction the NBA would be in trouble.
Absurd thing to say about any of these Western Conference teams in December. Everything will be matchup dependent, and we have no idea what those matchups will be yet
The thing that boggles my mind... how did people even know he could coach? He had no experience. Or am I missing a short stint of his sitting on a bench somewhere? Even Morey wanted to hire the guy before it was cool. What did he show that was so special? His hair is good, I guess that's 50% of the battle.
Maybe Kerr is a smart basketball guy and people knew that. He was also secure enough to hire a top-notch staff (unlike his predecessor). Name a team with two assistant coaches as good as Alvin Gentry and Ron Adams. You can't.
Hmmmm... Looks like we underestimated the Warriors a bit on CF. Not sure if I wrote it down but I too was skeptical of Kerr's coaching ability. I wonder what the W's final record will be? Is 67-15 realistic? 62-20? From the sounds of things they'll have to deal at least Iggy or Lee. We'll see how that impacts them once that happens.
When they start playing real teams they will start losing. Won't even get to 60, I think they could very well still get the #1 seed and earn the privilege of getting bounced by OKC. Us, Memphis, San Antonio and OKC will all be better teams by years end.
It's not just record, but look at how they are getting their wins. It's like bringing Lin in and thinking he can play at a Linsanity like level consistently over the course of the season. Plus, 2 of those wins were grind it out wins against a depleted Rockets team. They are making damn amazing shots, shots that won't always fall. These are shots that in the playoffs will go awry. This is why Kerr won't even come close to saying this team could match the 73-9 Bulls team. The Rockets mentality set by Morey and McHale is contingent on high percentage shots. They rarely take contested threes, let alone contested mid range jumpers. The warriors have more talented players, they for the time being don't necessarily have to play smarter on offense because they have the skills.
He was coached by three of the best coaches to grace the game: Lute, Jackson, and Pop. I'm not about to straight up hand him the COY award just yet, but he isn't a scrub either.
Mark Jackson really held that team back, offensively. A lot of people had high expectations for them considering their talent level. Looks like Kerr is utilizing the Splash Brothers to the fullest.
We'll see if the league truly has become a guard dominated league when the playoffs come around. I think these guys are good. But they must continue to drive the ball for easy baskets.
He's clean cut and well spoken. Anyways as mchale and morey have demonstrated you don't need your HC to really be an Xs & Os guy. You just need hire good assistants and have the players respect you.
