I have been meaning to put this up for a while. The Refs in the NBA today are just plain cheats. Or should I be a little more politically correct and call them incompetent? Regardless, the last two games I watched - against the Lakers and the Spurs, the Rockets were being victimised by ghost calls. A couple of them on Kobe and Duncan were just horrific!! The Rockets player who is on the receiving end for most of them is Kenny Thomas. Then, on the opposite end, the Rockets get hammered, and there are no calls. Mobley, Hakeem, Kenny are always hammered and the whistle just does not blow. Its not just the Rockets who are suffering. Last night, the Grizz were a victim of this as well when Bibby was the victim of a ghost call against Kidd when the game was on the line. And I'm sure much of the same happens to many of the other teams as well The League has to step up and play fair. If you are going to call it one way, call it the same the other way. I think many of the Refs need to go into early retirement because of cheating/incompetence. -Tariq ------------------
COACH????? Call me crazy, but I don't think Francis' shot (the one that got Hitler ejected) should have counted, either. I think as long as the league is around, there will always be bad calls, but I think that calls are missed on both ends of the floor. ------------------ Jazzkiller
The problem is not so much direct cheating, it is just the "Superstar" calls. People like Kobe, Shaq, Duncan and the like ALWAYS get the benefit of bad calls, just like Jordan did. Kenny Thomas seems to get the worst of it too - makes me think that he is doing something that annoys the refs. Could be scrappy or dirty play, or it could be the death stares he gives after every bad call, I don't know. Finally, the call that irritates the most is palming. That Francis and Mobely get called for this on a consistent basis is criminal. Kobe and Jason Williams palm the ball every freaking time they touch it, especially Kobe, who uses it to his advantage when penetrating the lane. If they are going to call it, they need to be more consistent. Watching Rick Adelman scream for a palming call when Francis had the ball just about made my beer come out my nose. ------------------ Maybe all the rulers are wrong. Players lose games, not referees. I have had my moments of ref hatred as well, but I have come to realize that it is the players who are in fact, crap, not the referees. Superstar calls are annoying though. ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
what about the fact that tim duncan spends most of the night collecting rebounds off other guys backs and then gets to shoot two (or miss two!) just 'cause the wind blows a little too hard? the refs need to be policed, and the players need to stop complaining. ------------------ [This message has been edited by gram (edited December 27, 2000).]
True, some of the calls are unfair, but the players should get some of the blame as well. ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
Went to the game tonight-sonics incredibly one-sided referee crew. the players lost the game, no doubt, but when i left with about 2 minutes to go the sonics had shot something like 15 more free throws then them and had been called for about 2/5 as many fouls, something that realistically should actually happen only about 5% of the time. the final foul tally--only 11 fouls on the sonics, compared to 22 for the rockets, and this is playing at home. and mo taylor is most often the victim in my mind. ------------------ "There are some frauds so well conducted that it would be stupidity not to be deceived by them." jayz u hit the nail on the head bout tonight..this crew was awful..i was there also..i hate to blame refs for losses but the sonics got away with murder tonight..it was a terrible job..walt has to go..his salary must go..mobley needs to pass the ball round..cat its not a one man show..i was impressed with mo, and where was dream most of tonight he was very effective yet he didnt play..one postitive..shandon scored 15 .. ------------------ How Sweet It Is! You're right Coach, you've convinced me. Wait a minute, what the hell are you doing? Shouldn't you be starting a new thread about this COACH? That would seem to be standard procedure for you by now. ------------------ Jazzkiller
