"Under Rudy Tomjanovich, the Rockets were famous for being old school. Instead of doing extensive scouting of opponents, which is not cheap, the prevailing philosophy was to make sure their own team was ready to play. But with the Rockets pushing Rudy out - he didn't want to stop coaching - it appears they are ready to catch up with the rest of the league. Team owner Les Alexander and GM Carroll Dawson brought up the need to upgrade their scouting with Van Gundy during their meeting with the ex-Knicks coach, before he even had a chance to raise it. "

That probably explains why the Rockets could never make any adjustments, and often seemed befuddled by the other teams moves. That method was fine when all you had to do was throw the ball into Hakeem and stand around the 3pt line, and had a goaltender on defence, but it doesn't work so well when you need to have an actually offensive and defensive system.

Everyone complains about the teams lack of Basketball IQ, but I think that starts at the top.

Riiiiiiight. That explains all the losses to crappy last place teams. Look, refusing to scout your opponents is dumb enough, but this team often times looked unprepared to play. So it's hard for me to feel sorry for Rudy being forced to resign.

    God I know.
    And especially........Mobley.
    I don't love Mobley.
    But I don't hate him.
And I don't know if it was the coach's fault or Cat's.
Cuz against the Blazers......he was guarding Derek Anderson....and left him open all the time...and he punished us with 5 3 pointers.
Same against Sonics. For some weird reason....we let them have wide open shots. UGH.
Well......our philosophy didn't work too well. Prepare our players?!? God..that's sad. Well why did we still lose to the crappy teams...
    Rudy was old school.
    We need a change.
    :(
Van Gundy...well he's crazy about scouting. He like watches videos of opposing teams for like entire days...just sits there and analyzes...

It's called help defense. Every time Cat left Anderson it was because Francis just got burned. When Cat comes over to help, someone is supposed to rotate out to Cat's man (most likely Griffin). Defensive rotation, this stuff is basketball 101. It is a mischaracterization to say Cat left Anderson open. It is more accurate to say someone blew their defensive rotation assignment.

this is the dumbest thing ever put in print for permanent record.

I'm sure that, having been a scout for umpteen years, Rudy totally blew off the need for scouting his opponents.

I hear Rudy also never brushed his teeth and that he totally got his nipples all twisted by cutting in line in front of helpless old ladies.

Different opponents require different defensive and offensive strategies. I didn't see the necessary changes a whole lot last season. I don't know that much about Van Gumby, but if what you say is correct, that's a big + in his "pros" column.

    LOL

It's amazing how little posters understand about coaching on this board. Now that it appears that Larry Brown is gone I just don't see how we will improve our coaching staff. We also just lost our best assistant. JVG is not the answer, Dunleavy may be okay but he is not an improvement just different. Perhaps Carlisle would bring in the discipline that they want but he doesn't come without problems of his own. There is one coach that I do believe could help this team tremendously, oh wait we just fired him.

Is english your first or second language SLA? I ask this question because I always feel like I am reading a telegram when you write. I am waiting for Stop to come after every thought. This isn't a diss it is just out of curiosity that I ask.

I just read it in my head in a Jim Rome voice/style. Fits perfectly.

Yeah....Mobley goes to help others...same with Yao! But then no one goes to help out with their men! I don't understand what Steve is doing....people blow past him and he just runs around after the ball on defense. Posey is a gambler as well and sometimes gets lucky. Posey likes to wander around and drift off and leave his guy wide open.

NO SE! No me gusta Mitch Lawrence. El es un bobo!
