And what people do with their money is their own personal business. Why do you care why they are buying his shirt?
William White played 1 game in 1879 http://www.slate.com/articles/sport...t_black_player_lived_his_life_as_a_white.html
Comparing Michael Sam to Jackie Robinson is a major disrespect to the civil rights movement. The level of violence opposing black civil rights was unprecedented, and institutionally the civil rights movement fought a much steeper battle. I agree that gay marriage is a grassroots movement, but the level of resistance is not nearly as deeply rooted as the resistance against segregation was. This is not to say that Michael Sam is not note worthy, but please go back and read a history book before comparing gay rights to civil rights.
what about the first black gay player, who was a hermaphrodite but crossed dressed as a man? that would be no.1 jersey sales and oscar script.
It's not disrespectful. The level of violence against American blacks was not unprecedented in history. It was horrible and disgusting, but you should read up on some history since you are telling others to do so.
This was an empty reply. False agreement and then closed with a meaningless vague counter-response calling your listener to action toward nothing concrete. Classic bait & switch
Cool. What do you want me to say? American blacks have not been subjected to an unprecedented level of violence. There have been many precedents like this in human history and there have been much more violent precedents. I feel the persecution of people because of their sexual orientation is pretty ****ty.
What does this mean? Who would be offended? If MLK was around, do you think he'd be angry that people fighting for equal rights would compare to other situations even though their path is less harsh? If it's so disrespectful, why aren't all these civil rights legends up in arms about the gay rights movement and their attitude? Seems like a lot of people are projecting their own offendedness onto others for the sake of criedibility. In this particular situation, who evne cares what the circumstances are? Gay people have been treated like crap for a long time in this country and still are throughout many parts of the world, often being imprisoned and killed for who they are. That's been changing over time and that has accelerated in recent years. This is a symbolic milestone in a sport that has been very much NOT associated with being gay. And some people are showing support or celebrating by buying a jersey. Who cares?
I love when people say blacks had it worse than gays. Remember in the 80's when society just ignored HIV and AIDS and called it a Gay man's disease? President Reagan killed refused to do anything about it. Almost seemed like genocide but no, let's keep thinking Gay folks haven't died fighting for anything. It's a civil rights issue.
The only thing that annoyed me about the whole Michael Sam thing was the cake eating episode. Who the **** eats cake like that ever unless it's your wedding. I don't know of any draftee who celebrated by eating cake. Maybe they have cake at their draft party, I don't know. But no one ever does that. I don't have a problem with the kissing. It's whatever's man. But the cake was over the top stupid. I wish a player next season does this just to make fun of it. I want to see someone stuff cake in their face just because.
