Case will have to flat out impress the hell out of O'Brien for that to happen. That job is Fitzpatrick's to lose.

All the chatter about drafting a QB next year might not pan out. The Texans have an easier schedule and might win enough games to fall into the middle of the draft. By then, the type of QB we would want would be gone unless the Texans used picks to move up.

Incorrect. BOB specifically said that the job is up for grabs in competition. No one expecially fitzpatrick has earned the right to be given the Job without proving that they can win it.

The 5th qb taken next year very well may be better than the 1st qb taken this year.

All I know is that if I were a college QB, in my last year, the last thing I would want is for the media to hype me up early, because then they'd spend all Spring tearing me down.

Unless you were actually worth the hype.

None of the QB's this year really were.

    227th Overall
    199th Overall
6th Overall (Trent Freaking Dilfer went 6th overall)
    Undrafted

The Mannings and Dilfer were the only top 10 picks, it's a myth you have to draft a guy really high. Roethlisberger was 11th, but you could easily trade up into that area if you see a guy you really want.

This gives me the impression that you believe NFL teams actually evaluate players based on the media hype they receive. Do you have evidence of this? Because it would seem to be illogical for these billion dollar enterprises to use the media to do their jobs.

I don't believe that for one minute... But even if it is. No way am I positive that Case or Savage can beat out Fitzpatrick. It's a reason Kubiak wanted to stick with Schaub and for that same reason I think O'Brien will go with Fitzpatrick... At least until he starts F'n up.

You got to look at the possibility that a lot of the teams drafting before the Texans may not need a quarterback. Or the Texans may can trade up....

Also there are guys like Hogan who may elevate his way up the board.

I think media chatter has some impact. I think good media chatter can help a player more than bad media chatter can hurt them. Look at Manziel and Clowney for example. Negative media chatter about Clowney's motor didn't keep him from going number one, and it's safe to assume that Manziel being a media darling helped make him a first round pick. So yes, I think media chatter can absolutely make a difference. Maybe not a lot, but definitely some.

Savage can make all the throws. No doubt about it.

Can he become a leader? Does he have guts? What is his football IQ? Will to win?

    These are my big questions.

I have a feeling Savage will be fine.

BOB is a qb guru, he turned Matt McGloin into a competent NFL qb

Maybe he could work magic with Savage too????

This is the NFL... there's no such thing as rebuilding. Teams go from worst-to-first every year. The Texans could conceivably have a very good defense, they have playmakers at WR and RB, and they have a very weak schedule. It's not out of the realm of possibility at all that with average QB play, this is a playoff team. (And it's not like the QBs they had guiding the ship in their recent heyday -- 2011 and 2012 -- were All Pros.)

I'd be on board with sitting Fitz if there were a Ryan Mallett here -- i.e. a younger guy with a bit of promise. But with Keenum, we're talking about an undersized, undrafted guy that just went 0-8 and was generally hopeless after teams made their initial wave of adjustments on him. I don't think there's any reason to sit down the guy that is clearly better when the alternative is Keenum.
