This isn't about Basketball IQ. This is not brain surgery. This is about SF. The Rockets blew it this year, because SF once again used our team as a way to showcase his own abilities, at the expense of his team. What the Rockets need is someone who can control SF, and if Larry Brown couldn't control Iverson, then what makes anyone think he can make SF change his game. This little fact is called the Elephant that can't be ignored. This isn't Xs and Os, this is spreading the wealth and sharing the load, and most importantly getting the ball to YM, and don't you think RT knew that and SF knows it too. Yet he ignored what was best for the team to pursue his own glory. SF needs to be told that if he doesn't change his game, then he will be gone before the trade deadline. It's not a new coach that needs to be found. It's a new point guard. Raven
Well, c'mon man, you gotta give larry brown some credit. He did change Allen Iverson a lot. As for Francis, Iverson was worse than Francis was about ball hogging and Francis' role should change this year to the 2. Francis will be fine, man. Once his role changes to scorer, his game will improve because of the new mentality he will have.
Personally, I think Larry Brown handled Allen Iverson about as good as anybody could have and that has been the general perception for 3 years now.
I am really beginning to think we can forget about Brown. Thus the question becomes can 1. Van Gundy, Silas or Carlisle get SF to be a point guard 2. CD find a big pg so SF can move to sg 3. trade SF and remake this team. Carlisle had a similar situation in Detroit with two scoring guards - Rip and Chauncey- and was very successful. If SF is the main issue I would go with Carlisle.
You're probably right. If it was any other coach, I would give up but seeing that it's the best coach in basketball, I'm willing to hold out false hope that he might still come to H-town until the last possible minute. Any other hiring at this point requires a good explanation from Rockets' management. Maybe the hard core fans on this forum don't think so, but it won't be us buying up the luxury boxes at the new arena next season.
Raven its so nice to hear from you! So few of us realise that you are stating the most obvious problem that surfaced last season and most posters refuse to recognise it. The Rockets are not going anywhere till its delt with one way or another and the same goes for Cat Mobley.
Raven is right. Steve doesn't "get it" and Rudy T. was making it worse by isoing him so much and praising him as a great point guard. Larry Brown would have been perfect for this situation. I think Carlisle is the 2nd best choice.
I think STeve had obvious problems. I don't think Steve did what he did for his own personal glory. He used improved shot selection and took far fewer shots than someone does who's after it just for their own glory. That aside he had problems, and needs to be coached to fix them. He's not AI. Steve Francis works hard on his game, and conditioning during the off-season. Steve Francis does go to practice, and doesn't have near the problems that AI does regarding that. By Steve, at least at times, changing up his game, he shows the willingness to at least try new things.
Alot of people forget too, that Steve has some nice high assist/low turnover games after the All-Star break. This proves that he is willing and is trying.
let's give steve a chance guiys.. he's really trying and everything to meet, or even get above of our expectations for him now that he knows himself as the rocs "leader". i do believe he's willing to work out and meet our expectations for him.
