Agreed. But he signed a contract, and it seems as if the NBA might have a case to force him to sell the team due to a breach of that contract.

In all seriousness, I wouldn't doubt this since I've heard rumors. (my inside sources)

I think Dr Dre only has like 15% max stake in the company. HTC must be kicking them selves for selling its 50% stake in the company last year

Why does the race of this man have to be highlighted in who's a temporary CEO?

There is a huge double-standard, sadly it's just not going to go away.

Thank you, and he's getting money much more than what he paid to get in.

Owners vote you in and can vote you out of their private association if you violate that contract.

People are acting like this guy is a poor victim getting robbed.

    Remember folks:

Preferential treatment based on race is NOT racist if black people benefit.

Donald committed a high political crime. He's being made an example of - it's just that simple. It has to happen for propaganda effect. That's why they're installing a black CEO, and will have a black person (whether Magic, Oprah, or whomever) figure prominently as part of the new ownership. All other considerations such as property rights aren't even relevant.

I understand how it works - that is not the issue. And I am not pretending he's some innocent little fawn caught in the headlights, or that he's getting robbed. He is going to get a big payout, that is for sure.

I simply don't like the precedent that is set here. "Racism" is defined more broadly every single day. And what happens when you throw speech about homosexuals in there? Member of the opposite sex? It seems to me that this is quite a convenient way to force everyone to think, act, and speak the same way, and for everyone to have the same values. Or else.

I am not a big fan of the PC movement. I see this as a first step, personally.

Yes, I know. And no one sees a problem with this?

I should add, if a person commits a high political crime they may forfeit the right to property, if not their life. It's an unwritten law but it's strictly enforced by the political rulers, more strictly than if you commit common murder. Donald never quite caught on, and now he's done.

So he's only CEO because he's black?

People will not see a problem with it until it affects them directly, or if it happens to them.

It'll depend what exactly Sterling owns. Imagine owning some restaurants belonging to a chain like McDonalds, I'd imagine if one of the owners was sufficiently distasteful, then McDonalds could lawyer him up and withdraw his franchise licences. Perhaps the same can apply to Mr Sterling and the Clippers.

The off thing you feel is the whole PR/media circus side of it. However, since when has the NBA NOT been about the PR? The whole NBA Cares, NBA being all inclusive etc. I'm not denying its usefulness, nor its inclusiveness (it's been very positive).

But, the NBA has to protect that kind of brand image, which it has worked incredibly hard to build up, and all of that will be gone if Silver hadn't punished Sterling. Can you imagine decades and decades of work, building up relationships with various rights groups, the first black owner (Jordan), all the effort into NBA Borders, NBA Cares, make-a-wish, etc, all that goodwill, destroyed by Sterling? It's too simple to just judge Sterling by only his words, we must judge him by his position as an NBA owner, and the reputational and responsibilities that carries.

The appointment gave me a bad feeling, but then reading about the guy -- honestly, he's over-qualified for the Clippers. Whether his race was a factor in the choice or not, I can't imagine they could get a better guy.

Eh, I don't think it's a precedent that has much reach. Sports leagues have a pretty unusual structure you won't see other places. Most organizations have a clearer hierarchy and unencumbered ownership. That said, private partnerships fall apart all the time because the partners can't get along. And, that's essentially what's happening here -- this partner isn't getting along with the other ones.
