Do you think this is a good idea? I think that the 33rd pick might be early for him. There is a decent chance that we could draft him in the 3rd.
I'd take whatever QB you like best at 33 and if there's a "project" QB later in the draft, I'd take him too. QB is that important.
I'm fine with using a pick later on in the draft for a project QB. Also fine with waiting till next season to get a QB.
Trade your 3rd and another late rounder for Cousins. - Sincerely, Redskins Nation. No, but in all honesty, the Texans should pass on all QBs in the 2nd and 3rd and then take Aaron Murray in the 4th. He was projected as one of the elite QBs in this year's draft before his ACL injury. He has everything you look for in a QB except size, and even that's not a huge question. 6-1, 207. Of the the other QBs...Derek Carr has a great arm, but his problems are all mental, so there's a huge chance his talent will never be utilized. Jimmy Garropollo is an intriguing option, but he has too many question marks, and there's a lot better talent in the 2nd then this guy. Zach Mettenberger could be a stud, and he's probably the next best option after Murray. McCarron will be solid, but not a franchise QB; that might work if your defense improves enough. Tom Savage is an overrated QB; he basically has Cousins' physical skills/arm, but without Cousins' intangibles. Too lazy too talk about the later round QBs.
Who is coming out Next year that is better than what is available at 33? . . . . . . .that we will have a legit shot at getting? I doubt we will get the #1 pick again Rocket River
Take the forgotten man, Tahj Boyd:- From cbssports Those weaknesses are coachable. Probably get him with our #211. Set this team up this year for our guy next year.
I wouldn't mind that. I think Carr is the better QB (and will be a better NFL QB than Manziel and Bridgewater) there's just too much bias because of his last name. David was in a draft class of QBs similar to this class. No Andrew Lucks but plenty of solid starting QBs. Texans reached for Carr and threw him into the fire with a second third team caliber NFL offensive line. Taking a QB in the top 10 picks in a draft this deep is reaching. Trading up late in the first for any QB outside of Bortles is reaching. These are second rd and beyond talents. Garoppolo is probably late second rd at best. I'd trade back and risk Carr or Garoppolo being there if BO' B wants one if not Amaro, Kouandjio, Nix, Hageman, Yankey, Hyde, etc would be a huge boost to the Texans depth chart.
They can probably get him as an UDFA. Usually only 11 or 12 QBs on average get drafted every year. I don't think he's a Top 12 QB. It's borderline. He may get drafted, but he could easily not be. And personally, the odds of a QB drafted that late becoming good are essentially 0%. I wouldn't waste the pick.
