We probably have about 500-600 right now. But that's after a MASSIVE cleanout we did about two months ago. We had three grocery bags filled with cds that we no longer wanted -- so we sold them at Soundwaves and Half-Price.

I was going to do that, because of all the space the disks were taking up, then I decided to bite the bullet and throw away all the cases and stick everything in "CD books". I just hope my friends never see some of the junk i've bought over the years. yikes  :D

I think I'm around 150, if you count my husband's CDs too. Most of them are "mine" anyway. There are lots more I'd like to have, but they're expensive... I listen to a lot of "retro" music just because it can be obtained more easily at used-CD stores.

Also, can't figure out how to organize them. It's expensive to keep buying racks for them and to take them in and out every time you want to use them. I've thought about going the "CD book" route, but what if I decide I want that case after all... I guess I could always just put the stack of CDs in a soft carrying case if I didn't want to bring the whole book with me. On the other hand, there are all those racks I already have and therefore ought to use... :( I hate cleaning up and organizing. No clue how to do it.

    Counting classical, probably around 900.

My CD buying is going to slow down significantly now. I have decided to do something else with that money, but I will still buy here and there.

Radiohead's new album, for sure, will be bought the day it comes out and probably about 5 jazz CDs a month will be bought as well.

If you don't have a CD Burner get one. Find a friend(s) or co-worker(s) that has/have a nice CD collection, ask to borrow the CD's and burn (copy) them.

Just finished counting. I have 70 CD's. (Of course, I bought cassettes until 1997, also.) I was sure CD's weren't going to make it. And my stubbornness in that assumption is why I waited until 97. Shows what I know.

    I voted 500 - 1000 but counting them I actually have 396.

I have people make comments sometimes about how many CDs I have. I cant believe that someone out there has more then twice as many CDs as me.

When or What if anything do you guys think will replace CDs one day. I know I will have a hard time switching to anything else.

You if they do change things I may never switch.

mp3's may replace CDs one day. If so, I wonder how far off that day is. It was irritating enough to have to buy CDs of things I already had the tapes of.

Of course, being digital, they can at least be transferred to CDs etc. if the permissions are right (don't laugh, I know very little about these)...

I kept buying new tapes up until 1993 just because they were cheaper than CDs. I knew better, but looking at how much more music I could get on tape, I always ended up going for the tapes. Besides, some things (my portable players up until recently, the system at work, and my car to this very day) don't play CDs, so you have to copy them onto tapes anyway. I'm embarrassed to say I was making my own mix tapes up until 2002. :(

I have about 75 CDs and several hundred vinyl LPs. Now that I can burn 150+ MP3s on a CD, it just seems like too much trouble to listen to a CD with only 15 songs on it. I listen to all my music on my portable iRiver SlimX 350.

I guess maybe one day a digital form of music might take over. But I think it will be somethig diffrent then MP3s because of sound quality.

People are no going to spend the amount of money, thousands and thousands of dollars and have the quality of the music itself not even close to par with there equipment that they have.

But I guess I agree with you guys in a way.

See my jazz thread that is ongoing...

Right now, still hard bop artists from the late '50s and early '60s, a lot off the Blue Note label and the Rudy Van Gelder remastered editions.

I recently got "Blowin' the Blues Away" by Horace Silver and I have 2 more Silver CDs coming in "Song for my Father" and "Horace Silver and the Jazz Messengers". I welcome any recommendations, especially from a jazzhead like you, Drew.:)

I've probably sold as many as I own, which is about 200-300.

I think that eventually, satellite radio may compete with CD's if it gets to the point where someone can easily and simply access anything they want to hear for $10 per month.

Still, it is nice to own what you want to hear, when you want to hear it.
