I still think Harden is a better PG than Parker.

But it's interesting that in Game 5 when we let our "stand in the corner" PG play a real PG we beat them by 10 points.

Harden is not a better PG than Parker.

It saddened me to hear the commentators say "No offence to Houston but Blazers finding out what its really like to play a championship caliber team right here"

Our system is not championship caliber.

Bout time we let our PG play PG and ask our SG to play SG (and some defense!)

That's what Morey is completely oblivious to heading into next season. I don't think 54 wins was any sort of great accomplishment for this team. They lucked out big time with the Warriors and Grizzlies having rough stretches due to injuries to Iggy and Gasol. If those two are healthier next season(especially if Golden State hires a really good coach), they could easily pass the Rockets in the standings. So could Portland, BTW. Hell, even Phoenix could give us a run for our money if they parlay their multiple draft picks and cap space into a star to compliment Dragic.

You bring back McHale and you're looking at probably the same number of wins next season. And best case scenario, you maybe finish with the 4th seed again. I fully expect a first round knockout under those circumstances. With a little luck, maybe a second round appearance that ends quickly. Sorry, but that is not a job well done given the expectations for this team.

It is clear that the Rockets ahve one of the most talented teams in the West but yet will never come close to championship contention as long as McHale is head coach. You cannot have one of the 5 worst coaches in the NBA lead you to a ring. Dump this clueless, incompetent clown right away before it's too late

    I forgot to add:

And the POOs (the Parker Only Obstructers) would have shouted loudly, "Patrick Beverley is better than Tony Parker!"

The Spurs is a great example that execution means everything when it comes to winning. It's great to have talents but you can have great talents and bad execution and be considered a bad team and you can have average talents with great execution and consider a winning team. So my point is that it's all about execution and so it comes down to coaching and the Spurs are the most discipline team and they're like a well oiled machine. With that said, I'm not sure if McHale is the answer.

Absolutely, this team needs discipline in the worst way.

I think (hope) they will learn more from being ousted the way we were than they would have if we'd snuck into the semis and gotten trounced by the Spurs.

    - Portland is one of the worst teams defending the p&r. We are seeing at these series how the Spurs play different kind of p&r's (central, lateral, in transition, after screens) with different players (Parker, Manu, Belinelli...), and obviously they are scoring in a very high % off those plays. Cause Blazers big men are not good at defending p&r. And outside, Matthews is the only good p&r defender. Batum lacks the body build and Lillard is simply a below average defender.

I still don't know why the Rockets didnt punish them like that, having good ballhandlers and good roll men.

    - Spurs are shooting 90% of their shots off screens, multiple screen plays, p&r...all those are good shots. That means, better transition D, and worst transition offense for Portland.

    - Spurs start with Green and Leonard, and they not only take better 1on1 responsability than Harden-Parsons, but also are more versatile defenders (who can switch and defend multiple positions) and more active colectively at the defensive rotation.

We also have seen how Pop has made the baseline double team -with Duncan- ajustment since the first game, and not since the 3rd. Diaw is helping them a lot defensively, and obviously Splitter doing a great job as always. But off the bench, players like Manu and Belinelli, who are NOT better individual defenders than Parsons or Garcia, seem to be that. Why? ...

McHale doesn't even watch tapes of his own game much less tapes on other teams. This dude is clueless, hopeless and a damn disgrace to the head coaching position.

Honestly the players have to play D. They have to want to play D all the time.

Problem with this team is they only do it sometimes, and when you do that it screws with your offense.

    Bev missed 26 games
Howard and Lin missed 11 games each
    Harden missed 9
    Parsons missed 8
    Jones missed 6

We weren't exactly the model of good health this season.

Amen to this! LOL. Game 5 was the only time we really beat Portland in the truest sense.

And Game 3 was more like luck playing on our side :p.

Outside of Bev and Asik(whose injury I still don't think was legit), the Rockets were pretty healthy this season compared to most Western Conference playoff teams. Howard could've played most of those games if necessary(the team conceded this). Harden and Parsons hardly missed any time. Lin had a couple brief stretches where he was out. And T-Jones was in the lineup most of the year.

Compare that to the Thunder who were without Westbrook for 2 months(and he also missed a lot of B2B games when he returned) and then Sefolosha and Perkins late in the season. Or the Clippers who lost Chris Paul for 6 weeks or Redick for more than half the year. Or the Grizzlies who had Gasol out for 23 games. Or the Spurs who had Kawhi Leonard out for 16 games and their Big Three in and out of the lineup all season long.

Next time you think the Rockets had it rough with injuries this year, just imagine what would've happened had Harden or Howard been out for 20+ games like the stars of some of these other teams. It would not have been pretty.
