We signed Howard, have virtually all our future picks and cap space in 2015 while having two stars on contract. Absolutely no one is in a better situation.
Well regular season still carry over to the playoffs. There is the reason why the Rockets are 4th in the West and not number one. Morey at 5th spot would be more deserving after what he did. But with McHale you can exactly see why he has dropped. McHale lost a couple of close games because of sorry coaching.
Yeah, once upon a time the Orlando Magic were the team of the future. They had Shaq and Penny under contract, all their picks(and some of Golden State's), and enough cap space to go out and get Horace Grant. Funny how quickly that all went to crap when 2 years later Shaq bolted. Don't think history can repeat itself? Remember, in two years, Dwight can opt out of his deal. You think he's gonna stick around if he feels like this is an incompetent organization that can't achieve a modicum of success in the postseason?
Voted on by his peers who, if I remember, said Morey was nuts because he wanted unprotected first round picks for Asik. The whole trying to trade Asik by the "re-trading" assets deadline was a bit of a farce with Morey following Millsap on twitter to make it seem like a trade was pending to entice interest from other teams. If we beat Portland you could say it was the right decision to keep Asik, but who knows how the Rockets with a lockdown wing defender and/or good bench player could've done. A for Howard D for Casspi C for Garcia F for Brewer F for Reggie Williams F for Camby F for Pittman Inc for Powell Inc for Daniels D for AB trade
This can't be the year for DM to win it. When players #3 and #4 on your payroll combine for like 25mpg the GM has made mistakes. If he can flip Asik + Lin for players that earn their cap figure then we will be contenders and he will have a shot at this award.
Signed or traded for 3 players(Livingston, Anderson and Pierce) who ended up in their top 5 minutes played.
LOL 9th place? Morey doesn't deserve it. He should be around the bottom of the poll. Morey did a great job leading up to the signing of Dwight, but what had he done to improve the team since? Absolutely nothing! And failed at the most fundamental job description of any GM; to improve his team. Do you know the biggest reason why Rockets improved by 9 wins this season? Beverley! The improvement from Asik to Dwight is minimum. All advanced stats backed up my statement. The biggest need was never addressed, which was PF. If we had a healthy Asik and signed Millsap instead, I can say with certainty Rockets wouldve had about the same or even better regular season record. By doing nada or garbage moves for the whole year, he wasted one year of Dwight signing. That itself was the biggest sin by Morey past year. Dwight's window is closing 1/3 way. Tick. Tock. Morey is seriously flawed as a GM. He is like this old lady who loves bargaining at swap meets. She low balls any sellers who show signs of desperation. She is well known among the sellers as a "shrewd little old lady" who tries to get over everybody. Instead of buying and PAYING the righteous price what she really needs, she just brings home a bunch of needless junks. Five first rounders (PPat, Morris, DMo, Jones, and White), 3 years later....I dedicate this video to Morey. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Pb1XXs7e7ac" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
There's an anti-Houston bias on CF! Hate the GM, hate the coach, hate the best player. When do the voting results for shi**iest fans come out?
Daryl Morey don't know coaching. He has to figure this out quick. And if Les will pay $6 million for a new locker room, he would pay for a first-rate coach staff. The main upgrade would be to hire one of the Van Gundys for $5 million to install a serious defensive and coaching system. This would be more valuable than getting some marginal upgrade of a player. And the Van Gundys would deserve a job title that is different from "assistant coach", which is too weak. A sort of Chief yahoo or "Chief architect" who answers directly to the GM, and not necessarily to McHale. A bribe like $5 million should be enough to get either Van Gundy, certainty unemployed-and-searching Stan.
Daryl Morey on Twitter: I let fans down, defense needs to get better http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterocke...se-needs-to-get-better/#23049101=0&23075103=0 Please hire a Van Gundy not as coach, but as something higher, a systems architect. If Jeff is unavailable get Stan. Or get both.
This post wreaks of a slim understanding of the cap rules. We didn't have the cap space to sign Millsap even if we wanted to. I guess you could argue we should have moved Asik and another guy to clear room, but you're assuming that option was available without knowing for sure. Your advanced stats might say there isn't much of a difference from Asik to Howard, but I would bet they say there is a big difference in Asik as a backup vs the joke of a backup rotation we ran out there last year as Asiks backups. Lastly I really find it hard to believe there is going to be a team in 2 years that has such a better situation than what we have to offer that would make Howard consider leaving. It's possible for sure, but we all know we aren't standing pat with what we had this season, there is plenty of opportunity to improve this team in 2 years. I understand as he gets older we have to expect diminishing returns, but I just don't see him severely dropping off as quickly as some make it seem.
It shouldn't be, but team performance in the playoff played a factor in the voting. Just like Raptor GM placed high because they finally got into the playoff after years of sucking.
I get it. It's like you got the best seeds or the second best seeds around and all you harvest and yield are tiny crops.
Daryl should seriously look into 1) getting some former top defensive coaches to join the coaching staff 2) make Kmac his bi-tch and tell him to establish a working system and enough plays in the playbook to survive the 4th quarter 3) Tell Harden to perform better when it counts or he will be benched 4) Tell the owner to invest more on players like Jamal Crawford (Real sixth man of the year) and keep him on the bench, not making him a star. 5) Tell the team it is not forbidden to share the rock in the 4th quarter 6) should work out and get into shape to show the players he has enough willpower to do that and set a good example 7) the last point, look into a solid 3rd offensive option but after a system is established
