Depends If it is CHOICE -FAT or Non-Choice Fat If you can somehow find a 'medical/scientific' explaination well .. . then you can do what ever you want without criticism even if it is the same thing others do by 'choice' our world. . . .. Rocket River
That makes it worse. Highlights the double-standard that it's more acceptable for a man to be obese than a woman. I don't think it's cool.
I'd be pissed off if I was black and some fat white lady says that she and I both face the same type of discrimination. I suppose the fat group thinks that fat people should also benefit from affirmative action.
She must be a big hypocrite then. I mean being a black woman, she shold know the bitterness of discrimination and here she is - trying to rid the country of obesity. Genocidal b****..
It is all some form of bullying, which can lead to a person being uncomfortable about themselves. And then who knows what depression can lead to. There are big people all over not just S.A. , and S.A. has some beautiful women as well that know all about victoria's secret. Charles has to realize he is on national tv being watched by millions of people and he has to be smart about what he says. It's one thing being with a group of friends and having a laugh, it's another being in front of millions of people and being a celeb. and saying something that will hurt millions of people. We've all made mistakes and probably have all bullied to some extent, and he just has to be the bigger person(no pun intended) and apologize. We can all say it's the freedom of speech, and who cares, but imagine it's your kid being picked on at school for being over weight, would it be funny ?
But he's absolutely ridiculed men for their weight, and ridiculed himself. ("Only way that man gets a rebound is if you put a big Mac on the rim,"... if memory serves.) I get that there are segments of society where it's "more okay" for a man to be obese, but it's definitely not where I live. I think the bigger double standard is socio-economic, and the bigger issue is objectifying women (again and again) in a sports show, but I don't think this deserves the seriousness that some are bringing to it. Cheers.
I think you are taking it out of context. I think she meant that it is hurtful. There's a history of slavery and what not having to do with color, so of course it's not the same, but at the same time it still is hurtful to an extent.
damn our society has become sensitive, or at least the 2% that seem to be the most vocal since no one else cares
What a joke. They make fun of Barkley's weight all the time, they were clearly joking. No, a slur about body size is not the same as race. Nobody gets to choose there race...more people who are overweight are that way because of life chooses. People joke about race reguarly as well. It is arrogance, because you are offended by it everyone else must be offended by it.
I like how Barkley makes fat comment when he's really fat himself. Maybe he should go on a diet before he cracks jokes about other people's weight I'm just so sick of this clown talking down to the current gen of players like he was a role model when he was playing, dude just coasted on his talent his entire career, didn't keep the weight off, didn't work on his game and didn't play D.
Derogatory comments about fatness are mostly about look than about health or other inconveniences. That's why there are more shots at fat women than at fat men. As sad as it is, look is the most important value for women in our society.
