This is about right. If McHale's contract had ended with no clauses for extension, the FO would probably not resign him to another multi-year contract. Signing a coach to a single year is an insult and shows lack of faith and would undermine his ability to do his job. Looks like McHale has one year to get the Howard and Harden pair to play with synergy and coach the youngsters into a contender. Him getting Howard to Houston probably got him one more crack at it. I hope he executes better next year if he does return.
Oops. I meant this for the other thread on McHale being back as head coach. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=254276
It's okay guys, according to some people on ClutchFans, coaching doesn't really impact team performance
sad part is, McFail comes back for a year, and we'll get ousted in R1 (again) following year: new coach only has one year to get us through 4 rounds of playoffs all is lost...
"With Houston, there wasn't that much pressure on defense" -- Robin Lopez — Mike Meltser (@MikeMeltser) It's such a joke for Rox fans to believe they have good D with Asik (Top rim protector), Howard (DPOY), and Beverley (elite defender).
Wasn't much pressure having to defend the Rox. And you always seem to blame Rox players every chance you get. It's the coaching that the culprit.
we just ****ted on howards dpoy awards with this "defense" shown in the playoffs. ugh im sorry dwight, i didnt know my team was gonna do this to you. if they bs this offseason, plz request a trade. as for mchale... "DUDE, DID YOU SEE PARSONS STANDING AROUND LAST NIGHT?" "totally! he just stood there and did nothing but jack threes" "AWESOME BRO. championships baby" "HELL YEAH!"
Spurs just killed the Blazers.... must've been the talent and not the coaching... Because as the analytics obsessed fans like Nook like to remind us.... coaching has little to no influence on the game... all you need is talent... After all... Who was JLin before he came to Houston...? Linsanity... it was just a fluke... Look at Parsons, who was he prior to his failures in the playoffs...? Untouchable... See? It's not our fault we keep being deceived by fluke regular season success... Harden was top 5 in MVP... probably another fluke, just look at what he did in the postseason... as was Dwight's incredible play against the Blazers... We are SEVERELY lacking in the talent department guys... wake up and smell the stats... We shouldn't be quick to label McHale incompetent until he fails with a stacked tried and true starting five and a bench that features a sixth man of the year... then and ONLY then... can we call him incompetent... because, the only way to measure a coach's competence... is to see if he fails with a veteran all-star team...
After watching the finals and the Spurs absolutely demolish the Heat, COACHING absolutely matters in the playoffs. It is evident that the Rockets are so far behind in terms of coaching that even LBJ and CP3 on this team would not help us win the title if McHale remains as the coach. McHale is a clueless, incompetent, joke of a coach, an embarassment to the Rockets who is amongst the bottom 3 in NBA currently and definitely amongst the 10 worst ever head coaches in the NBA. You can get by the regular season on talent alone like the Rockets did but come post season you will be found out if you have a pathetic coach which McHale is. What I fear is getting a top tier free agent and then wasting another season because of this lousy coach. It is time Morey steps up his game and fires this gimmick coach and hires a real coach.
