So I'm listening to the radio on 610 am and they are talking about the upcoming series. One of the guys says how he thinks New Jersey has a good chance because he thinks that Jason Kidd has a bigger mismatch with Tony Parker than Duncan has with Kenyon Martin. I was like, hmm, ok, if you feel that way. They chatted for a little bit and then they were talking about the rebounding matchup. Then one guy breaks out with: "I think Kenyon Martin can out-rebound anybody! He plays with such great energy!" Good grief Charlie Brown! K.M.'s average playoff stats 20.7 points 9.1 rebounds 3.1 assists 1.2 blocks 2.6 turnovers 4.5 fouls Come on - he's a nice player, but he'd play behind three quarters of the PFs in the western conference. Duncan, Rasheed, Webber, Nowitzki, Amare Stoudemire, Brand, Garnett, Gasol, Malone, Juwan Howard. By the way, these are Duncan's stats - and he was double and triple-teamed most of the playoffs and did NOT have the best playmaker in the game giving him easy shots. 24.9 points 14.8 rebounds 5.3 assists 2.93 blocks 2.94 turnovers 3.4 fouls Congrats on winning in the junior varsity league Kenyon, but lets see how your 6'9 235 lb frame deals with the best of the Western Conference.
Kenyon is one of the better PF's in the league. I think he would probably manhandle Amare Stoudemire.
Christ...I hope he would manhandle Amare since he is straight out of HS and Kenyon is a vet...but after saying that. I don't even think he would manhandle Amare.
did he even win ROY in that crappy 2000 draft class?? definitely overrated. hes playing in the eastern conference. those numbers are inflated. with the leagues best pg i might add. amare NOW would at least match him. at least.
hes an amare with an almost decent 12 ft. jumper (atleast what ive seen this year in the playoffs) yeh he is overrated.
Kenyon vs Amare Kenyon is probably stronger, but Amare is faster. I give Amare the edge because he is just a rookie and he is already a monster inside. Also, Amare played Duncan pretty well in the playoff series, which is a positive sign that Amare can play at the highest level. Would like to point out that Yao schooled Amare Kenyon vs Duncan No comparison, Duncan owns Kenyon As for the rest of the powerforwards: 1. Wallace - has been moved to the 3 since Randolph emergence for Portland. 2. Howard - isn't even a has been, he was a never was 3. Nowitzki - is a great shooter but no defense. As much as he helps on the offensive end, he is a liability on the defensive end. Also, he averaged 1 offensive rebound per game, which should raise flags considering he is a power forward. 4. Gasol - Skinny player who can get man handled down low. Add 20 pounds and he will be one of the best. 5. Malone - still one of the toughest guys in the league but without Stockton will he be as productive? 6. Webber - is not worth the 120 million he signed but then again Webber puts them over the top. However, same argument could be made for: Vlade's (passing, crafty inside moves) Peja (sharp shooting) Doug Christie's (defense against the best guards) Bobby Jackson's (hustle, and energy/6th man) Mike Bibby's (clutch shooting)
Wasn't he a #1 Overall Pick? Well compared to Shaq, Iverson, Brand, Garnett, Duncan, Yao.....hmm.....he's not that good. He just started to get better. But it's better than Eddie Griffin. At least KMart is working on his game and improving his weaknesses....and he also has Jason Kidd. But God...I hate it when he talks. Kenyon Martin is not overrated... He's one of the best defensive players in the NBA. But there is no way he can defend Tim Duncan by himself. God Bless San Antonio.
kenyon "rebounding machine" Martin has a career average of 7.0 rpg including a whopping 5.30 a game in 01-02. that is frankly maurice taylor like.
Kenyon Martin is a rough, dirty, intense power forward. I'm not saying he's as good as Karl Malone offensively, but I think he plays alot like Malone. DIRTY! So I'll say you can expect Tim Duncan to get roughed the hell up in this series and I can see how somebody might expect that kind of play to wear down Duncan. That said, Kevin Willis is bigger, stronger and just as dirty and he doesn't seem to have any qualms about protecting Duncan. good luck surviving this series Kenyon. I don't agree he's over-rated though. Sure he's nowhere near as good as Tim Duncan, but there aren't many players in the league who are. I also don't agree with all the power forwards you listed you felt would start over him. KG, Tim Duncan and Elton Brand were the only ones I really agree with. I believe all of the others would just have to shift positions to accomdate him if K-Mart joined their team or they'd be sitting on the bench or traded. You think Utah wouldn't love to trade Malone for him??!?!
I didn't know that his playoff stats were that good. Way better than his regular season averages. Seems to indicate that he stepped up in the playoffs which seems to indicate that he is not overrated.
One thing KMart should get some love for dough, is the energy he brings. I just love when he makes a monster flush and then just screams!
He's not overrated. People just love bringing down the East on the board, even when it's completely wrong. It's pretty sad really.
Personally I like Kenyon. Can he stop Timmy, obviously no. But he can play him as awell as any other PF can. I will be curious to see if NJ does indeed not help Kenyon out. I disagree witht hat I woudl rather make teh other teams best player beat you by making a good pass and making someone else make a shot (even if it is open). I really do think the series comes down to how Parker does. If he can have a good series it goes to San Antonio, if not then it may be a good series.
No he didn't Mike Miller won it. but that was because Martin broke his leg and coudn't play at the end of the year. so he coudn't be rookie of the year, he would have won it. I think he is a nice player, But he is not an elite PF, maybe next year he wil be on the same level as gasol. Duncan Nowitzki Garnett (yes i think he is PF) Webber Brand Gasol those ar all better then Martin. But i like his intensity, and i hope he will keep improving, especially his rebounding
If Martin is better than a certain player, it is definitely Gasol. People don't seem to factor in defense when comparing the two.
if you look at the way Martin played this play offs i agree with you. but there have been alot of players who played great one play off. Like Croshere and Bibby. gasol can rebound alot better then Martin. MArtin has better defense, But gasol is a much better offensive player. Martin gets alot of point from easy baskets created by kidd. gasol is the go to guy for memphis, so opponents wil watch him alot better then they watch martin.
The problem is how is he "rated". He's not an all star. He's not in all nba teams. He's not in all nba defensive teams. He's not in the olympic team (jefferson?). Actually he has not won any individual award or recognition. Then how can he be considered "overrated'?
The thing with Martin is, I'm not even sure how much he's improved THIS year. In last year's playoffs, he had some MONSTER 30 point games on the Lakers and many were saying he'd be an elite power forward this year. That hasn't happened, and I'm not sure ever it's going to happen. He brings a lot of intensity, which everyone loves, but his stats are very subpar for an elite power forward. Even when he steps it up for the playoffs, 9.1 rpg, 1.2 bpg, and 3.1 apg is not close to superstar level. When people say he can play Duncan as well as anyone else, he is being overrated.
