    Houston trades:
    PF Maurice Taylor
    SG Cuttino Mobley

    Houston receives:
    PF Brian Grant
    # 5 pick

Change in team outlook: -15.6 ppg, +2.5 rpg, and -2.6 apg.

    Opposite for Miami

Don't necessarily know if I'd do it. Obviously Grant would be an improvement over Mo Taylor - and although Grant's contract is significantly worse, well, you're still getting rid of your bad Mo Taylor contract.

The issue is, will the #5 pick be as good as Cuttino? Who knows.

    Houston trades:
    PF Maurice Taylor
    SG Cuttino Mobley
    SF Glen Rice

    Houston receives:
    SG Eddie Jones
    PF Brian Grant
    # 5 pick

Change in team outlook: -6.1 ppg, +4.8 rpg, and 0.0 apg.

Again, the problem here is contract related. Miami probably goes for it because they get rid of two horrid contracts. We, of course, have to take them on.

On the other hand, imo, Grant > Taylor and a healthy Eddie Jones >= Mobley

    Lineup -

    PG: T.J. / Steve
    SG: Steve / Eddie Jones
    SF: Jones / Nachbar
    PF: Grant / Griffin
    C: Yao / Cato

It makes our backcourt pretty small overall, but if you resigned Posey - if that was still possible, you could go big with Steve, Jones, Posey, etc. etc.

    Thoughts?

Considering that TJ has a top agent who is in the inner circle, it could very well be true. Who knows... Probable?? most likely not. Possible?? Definitely yes...

I dont understand why everyone thinks our backcourt defense will be so horrible if we have TJ and Francis rather than Cat and Francis. I have seen TJ play since his soph year and he is really quick and a good defensive player. He will be short compared to NBA point guards, but I believe his heart and quickness will help him make up for it. I think he would work out well for the Rockets. As much as I love CAt, or as much as getting Odom excites me...I think getting TJ and a physical pf would be a great move for the Rockets.

I cant think of a decent reason why Miami would trade the 5 pick. They will have their choice of bosh or ford. Correct theyre not thought as franchise players. But with Caron they really dont need one, they surround him with nicer players.Cato + Mobley dosent seem fair on Miami's side. Eddie + mobley is way to much imo for a undersized PG who also cant shoot. And most think of him as a liability on the defenseive side of the ball. We'd be trading Mobely love him or hate him he is a nice player. + a project who has alot of work to do for another project who has alot of work to do.I believe the Rockets might try to accuire a PG in the first round but a guy like Kirk Hinrich seems more likely. Not to mention that he is probaly more NBA ready at this point. or a Luke Ridnour. If the Rockets are attempting to accuire TJ it wouldnt surprise me.I just hope theyre sold on him cuz Im not.

I'm in Austin and have seen TJ play extensively and I think he's going to surprise a lot of people in the NBA - two or three years down the line. His jumper is going to be a huge liability until he significantly improves it.
And right now an undersized rookie point guard is a huge risk for the expectations of the coming season - and I'm not sure that's enough compensation for the fact he's a local kid.
And if any of these deals are in the works, that might significantly play a role on Brown, specifically, wanting to take the job too.

I'll vouch for this guy even though I don't know him and say he's telling the truth. Although no trade may happen and you all will blast him, he included enough details that I know to be true to say he's pretty credible.

Doesnt this contradict Doc's thread about going after lots of veterans?

The only way Rox trade Francis is if they can get the same value in return, e.g. KG or Jason Kidd.

But if we are going to dream about the 5th pick, why not dream bigger and lust after the 2nd pick?

    Darko Milicic.

Imagine him and Yao playing high-low (post) and hitting cutters with Kidd feeding either of them entry passes while running fast breaks.

Now THAT is the way to dream.

i think it would be great cause it solves three problems for us.
    1) we get a REAL point guard
    2) we get a tough PF
    3) we get rid of "franchise".

I believe July 1 Mourning becomes a free agent and Miami gets roughly 5-7 mil under the cap.

Personally, I would think someone like Reece Gaines would be a better fit if we keep Franchise. He will be available several picks later and won't cost as much.

If we are talking basketball, I still take Milicic over "King" James.

If we are talking about anything else, I take JLo. :D

Draft picks are so overrated. Why would the Rockets want to get younger? Please trade for established players.

Though this smelled fishy, its true that TJ's agent may have been getting some scoop and passed it to his client.

As for the actual trade, Riley ain't getting any younger and if he could bring some immediate help...why not? A healthy and motivated Cato could be a defensive force in the East. Mobley would also be sick and would allow them to move Eddie Jones for more vet help.

Bringing TJ to play PG would help make us much more exciting, but I worry what that would do to our defense. With Steve at 2, this becomes a very small backcourt and vulnerable to getting posted up quite a bit.

If we are considering trading so many of our players how about trying to get Elton Brand he will have a bigger effect in a positive way more so than Ford!

Intriguing. How long are the contracts of Grant and Jones? Longer than we would want, I would think. We'd want Posey backing up Jones at the 2 and 3 in this scenario, imo. Steve would have to play point. T. J. is not going to be ready to start for a couple of years... if that's who we pick. It's worth thinking about if Jones and Grant are healthy. Major upgrade, but expensive.
