I know there's already 5 threads about this, but I wanted to give my input on how we should've defended the final play, which I think would have 100% guaranteed a much more difficult inbounds pass and shot. Terrence Jones should have faced his back toward Batum and just watched the other 4 Blazers. If he faced his back toward Batum, he would've seen Lillard sprinting toward the ball and could have double teamed him. The only way to counter this play is to bounce the ball off the defender's back on the inbounds pass, but with .8 seconds that would be impossible. first, you want a quick person on lillard. Lin which had been playing him well, or Beverley. Regardless, you want to make sure one of the best shooters in the NBA is not taken the shot. I think you'd be okay with Dwight one on one with LMA, dwight had been doing great on him. McHale shouldn't have had Terrence guarding the inbounds. He should have turned and looked for a 3 pt cutter. Easy to say now, regardless (x2) there was no need to guard the inbounds whatsoever. And last, someone fast could have fouled as soon as the ball was touched. But no one even close due to chandler covering the absolute fastest guy on the court. Mind boggling.
