coach is hard to decide. who are you gonna get? hollins-no. karl-no. VG brothers-no.

thibs in a "trade" with chicago would be great.

it's hard to make a call about the personnel other than getting better role players. had a lot of talent and how much is it really on mchale for the screw ups. if mchale is the biggest factor, you might not need to do much on the roster front.

Fans need to stand outside McHales house, Matt Schaub style.

This is a great lineup and a quick fix.if we can keep Asik that would be great.defensive wing and a power forward/wing that fills both holes in our current situation.

A new coach would be great too...

3 words define this offseason -

    Defense, Defense aaaaaand Defense.

We have to establish a defensive mindset that revolves around Howard and is enforced by the Coaching staff, even if that coach staff is McHale and whomever.

Howard / Asik (Howard must be the new conditioning leader)
Jones / ???? (Train with Howard and staff all summer)
Parsons/ ??? (Same. Parsons needs to spend all summer with Howard and bulking up. He has GOT to get stronger!)
Harden / Daniels?? (Work 50+ hours/week watching video and training on D. All Harden should think about this summer is Defense, if not, trade him!)
Beverley / ??? (Keep doing what you're doing, work on Offensive sets)

As far as offseason acquisitions, I say no to Melo and yes to Rondo and any other Premium defender who can hit an open shot. This team has MORE than enough offensive fire power. It lacks on the other end greatly!

I really do not think Rondo is a good fit for the Rockets, and I think he Carmelo would do a better job spacing the floor. Harden is the one who should dominate the ball; we should have a PG who can play off ball. Rondo dominates the ball and cannot shoot. Chalmers, Jack, and Lowry would be better, cheaper options at the point guard position. Mike Miller might retire, and besides, he is a defensive liability. Marion is a good option if we decide not to go after Melo.

He's been around long enough for me to feel confident he is just an extemely blind Lin supporter and not a troll. Never any stats or much analysis behind his posts to justify anything, just blind faith in the chosen one.

They never got along for some reason. But, Lowry was traded for a 2013 lottery pick, which was a big trading piece that helped Morey get (rob) Harden from the Thunder.

I do wonder if Lowry would be willing to come back if McHale is no longer the coach (which he shouldn't be) .

No, Hollins is absolutely the worst fit for this team. Definitely worse than Karl, McHale, Van Gundy. Heck, anyone for that matter. And that Millsap trade is a stretch at best, not to mention we would have to send more to Toronto for Lowry.

I'd offer Asik, Jones, Lin or Bev for Rondo
Sign a backup C, maybe Hawes
Draft or sign a defensive wing
    Figure out PF situation
    Sign Pierce to help bench
    Fire McHale, hire JVG

i always find the "stop using analytics and shoot more mid-range shots" crowd funny. it's like the idea that mid-range shots are inefficient is just some theory someone came up with and not just straight up mathematics. we finished 4th in offensive efficiency. the idea that a point guard like rondo would help us run a good offense when we already run a good offense doesn't make much sense (especially when rondo's last boston offense with kg/pierce/allen wasn't very good at all). the idea that we should shoot more inefficient shots to help our very efficient offense doesn't make much sense. unless the idea is that by hurting the offense, it will force us to rely more on defense and then we'll try more on defense and then when the D is good, we can go back to our efficient offensive ways.

the idea we need to change the offense is even funnier given that the team we lost to relies on 3's every bit as much as we do. they just take more mid-range jumpers while we take more layups and free throws. i certainly don't want to make that trade off. even with our best offensive player struggling and portland's two best offensive players playing very well, our offense actually scored more than their's.

the biggest problem is that the west is ridiculous and series are very close and come down to small things. we played an equal team (like most teams in the west are), and out of 4 coin flip games we lost 3. which just proves out morey's "great teams don't win close games, they avoid them" theory.

we lost game 1 on a tip in to force OT and then in OT in no small part due to a call the league apologized for.

we lost game 4 due to the lack of a timeout and lin's horrible turnover.

we won game 5 because of a near turnover that turned into a scramble and then some guy who had barely ever played for us hit a huge 3.

we almost won game 6 on a crazy loose ball situation and then lost it on a 27 foot buzzer beating 3.

if the coin flips are even, we're playing game 7. if we win 3, we're getting ready for round 2. unfortunately, we lost 3.

this team isn't that far away or that far off the trajectory they need to be on. we could easily be about to play a spurs team we match up well with to go to the WCF. instead a few bounces of the ball and we lose round 1.

obviously we should upgrade what we can and if melo or some great player can be added, we should. but changing the offense to be less efficient or overreacting and changing a talent-adding process that has worked very well for our team the last few years are not what we should do. maybe we need a new coach. maybe we just need a 2-way player that solidifies everything. maybe we need to be the team that has its best players playing well when the other team's best players struggle.

i'd trade for big upgrades but otherwise i wouldn't tweak a lot just to tweak and overreact.

    An ideal off-season for me

Trade Asik and Parsons for Paul Millsap.
S&T Carmelo Anthony by trading Lin/Jones/2014 first round draft pick
    Fire Kevin McHale
Hire Stan Van Gundy (bring in D'Antoni as assistant coach)
    Bring Pap over from Barca.
Sign: Steve Blake (some of MLE), Ben Gordon (vet min), John Salmons (vet min), Emeka Okafor (other half of MLE).
