Exactly! There were trade rumors circulating with Super Mario's name heavily in the mix, and he didn't appreciate hearing about being on the chopping block like that. So the very next year, he left via free agency without even entertaining ideas of returning with the Rockets. Things were said, feelings were hurt. I, too, don't understand Mario's sudden change of heart.
Instead of saying it was a "very bitter parting"...how about we just start calling those..since there are so many now "a very les alexander parting"
I think the Phoenix years did quite a bit to humble Mario. Time also has a way of healing all wounds. Perhaps Mario also realizes that Rudy (and this club) took the chance that allowed him a fairly lengthy NBA career. Houston is his home. Mario works with our current players out at Westside. Tapping him for an assistant's position is logical.
