This is not a lottery team regardless of the coach....

If the Clippers shell out $6 million for Brown, I would not call that cheap. And if Brown does sign with the Clips, I suspect that he will have an understanding with the owner that the best Clip players will be re-signed.

I guess it's kind of hard to be a lotto team w/o a pick....

and if the rocks bring in a ****ty coach, this very well could be a lotto team next year.

we must be careful not to slow the pace to a standstill...

worst case scenerio is that we wait to see where the chips fall and the following happens:

    brown to clips
    dunleavy to hawks
    silas to philly
    jvg to cavs

it is true that the rox job is the most appealing by far, but as they say "a bird in hand is better than two in a bush" and these coaches could easily take the above mentioned jobs if they are offered to them first...if this takes place then we will really be SCREWED

The ****tiest coach we can bring in, as of now, is Avery Johnson.

I would still bet on making the playoffs with an unchanged roster and a new coach.

We were one measly game out of the playoffs, and would've been a 6th seed in the East playoffs with the #of wins we had.

How can you classify Houston in the same class as Cleveland, Denver, or Memphis? THOSE are lottery teams. Are you saying we're at the same level as they are? We're close to being a Phoenix than a Memphis.

I'm sorry, I thought a team that doesn't make the playoffs is a lotto team? Sorry, hasn't this been a lotto team for 3 friggin years now? Did I even mention Cleveland, Denver or Memphis? This team has the talent to make the playoffs, but uhm, so does Seattle, Golden State, Memphis, and the Clipps. There's still only 8 spots in the west.

If we wind up with the wrong coach who can't push our players to play to their potential or face a little adversity through injury, we could EASILY end up next season the same as this one, except we'd have a pick.

I read somewhere that Larry's assistant coaches in Philly would follow him where ever he went, so I don't know what that would mean for the existing staff... Does anyone think that he would clean house with staff?

    4 years ... that's right.

Wouldn't really be dissappointed in landing any of the lead candidates right now. They all seem to have their positives and negatives and all I really have to go on is impressions, so I'll trust the rockets brass to make the right pick(the only way we'll know for sure is once we see the product on the floor). I just hope they make it soon because I don't like to wait. :)
