I was suprised to see this was not posted anywhere else. Mario was on 610 this afternoon and I had the chance to listen to most of the interview while I was driving through BFE on the way home. A few notes: Most importantly, Elie said he would be very interested in getting into coaching, specifically, as an assistant with the Rockets. He said that he contacted CD a few years ago about getting a job, but that CD turned him down because there were no openings. His #1 choice for the coach of the Rockets would be Larry Brown. His wife is Gina Gaston, who is a reporter for Channel 13 (never knew that). Mario and Gina just had triplets! He says that for the last year or, he has taken time away from basketball to start a family and that his wife supports him returning to a career in basketball (even if it is the life of a coach). He talked about other things also that I don't remember. If anyone else listened, please feel free to add your comments. For the record, I would love to see Elie in an assistant role. We definitely need a Rocket link in the coaching staff.
WOW! Thanks Codell. That's cool........Elie is a Rocket... I'd love him as an assistant. I'm surprised Free Agent didn't inform us about this! Just kidding. And he says he wants Brown. Whooo! Doesn't he work for the Rockets? I thought he was like something... And his wife is a news reporter? Wow! Triplets! Cool! Elie would be a good assistant coach along with Mike Woodson, Kenny Smith, Avery Johnson, Matt Bullard, Charles Barkley, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Clyde Drexler. With Larry Brown as head coach! Thanks!
Don Nelson can have 15 asst coaches, but CD cant create a opening for someone who really, really wants to help?
Yeah, he listed Brown as first choice then Dunleavy and then JVG. He said he felt he will be coaching in the NBA very soon (like in a year). He said he's heard his name come up in a few different places and he's excited. He had triplets, 2 boys and youngest girl. He met Gina Gaston during one of the Rocket's championship coverages actually. That's about all I can remember.

I love it how people blame CD for going by the rule (3 or 4 assistants) rather than the exception (15 assistants).
How is this outside assistance? Dude played 5 seasons for the Rockets and won 2 titles here. Maybe it's because Mario doesn't have enough experience watching videos.
Great laugh. I needed that. However, it took me a second to get it. I first pictured Elie shooting the Kiss of Death.
Speaking of the Kiss of Death... http://www.clutchcity.net/multimedia.cfm Scroll to the middle of the page
Mario is Da Man. Not only should he be allowed to be an assistant coach if he wants, they should have already retired his freakin jersey number by now.
Honestly, not every owner is gonna be like Cuban. 3 -4 assistant coaches would be fine, I just want Mario to be one of them. That being said, I'm surprised Elie would want to come back, wasn't it a very bitter parting?
