Thanks for the report. My only concern about JVG is that our offense is already slow enough. JVG loves to slow things down on the O end.
1. I wonder why he said Philly was a bad fit. An annual contender is not his thing? Philly is a bit more veteran and they don't have Yao, but otherwise they seem similar to Houston. 2. Van Gundy says he's 50/50 whether he'll coach this year. I think if he doesn't take a coaching job this year, he won't have many people knocking on his door next year. After this offseason, I think he'll go from being considered a coach without a team to a color guy who used to coach. 3. Thanks Almu. 4. It would be to cool for Gundy to work for Gund. Gund & Gundy. 5. What was the deal with the Dallas/Houston thing? Geographically, Dallas isn't any different than Houston.
"Van Gundy: I talked to a GM and he told me this about Houston. Want to know what's the best thing about the Rockets? Everyday you wake up, Yao Ming is 7 feet 5." Awesome quote...
I am surprised nobody mentioned this part of the interview: " Van Gundy: I talked to a GM and he told me this about Houston. Want to know what's the best thing about the Rockets? Everyday you wake up, Yao Ming is 7 feet 5. " where are all the yao fans?
Someone already did. Yeah......JVG is a perfectionist. He thinks winning 50 games is bad...because you still lost 32. He like spends entire days studying videos and analyzing the opposing teams..even if it's the crappiest team in the NBA. He is smart......but hmm... Still for Larry BrowN!
So was the interviewer trying to say that Dallas is a big city and Houston is a cow town? I'm speechless and offended. Someone needs to be shown the Bayou City's fabulous array of sophisticated adult entertainment venues.
Just watched the Philly local TV station. They said that the reason JVG didn't work out with Philly might be "his demand of a huge salary."
So is "demand for huge salary" the only reason that JVG and Philly agreed to being a "bad fit"? I thought JVG wanted a contender, Philly was the only playoff team on his list (Houston, Cleveland being the others).
I love the 50% chance he'll coach this year. What, 8 vacancies isn't enough selection for him? Until Brown resigned, Van Gundy was the leading candidate for the best jobs. You have to wonder what all the other guys who want a head coaching job are thinking about that remark. Good coach, but I don't now how this guy achieved his status - other than being on television for being on TV for almost an entire season. For those who want him, he's far from a bad choice, IMO, but after Brown, I'd rather have Silas and then Dunleavy.
haha... if VG knows how the Rockets work, he would take the job, show a slight bit of possible future talent and then the Rockets would just shower him with money, a la Cato, Mooch, etc., etc...
Ditto. Van Gumby is the LAST person I want coaching the Rockets. I would rather see an unproven guy like Mario Elie or Kenny Smith before wasting our time with this loser and dipsh!t.
Man....we need to do the same thing like Ric's thread!!! Everyone e-mail him! Represent Houston! We are not a cow town. But actually....Dallas and Fort Worth combined is bigger than Houston. And their weather is a bit better... BUT HOUSTON IS BETTER OVERALL MAN. It needs some change...but we are great! Look at how many young basketball players are coming from the Houston area! A bunch! TJ Ford....Nududu Ebi......Kendrick Perkins....Hakeem Olajuwon......Clyde Drexler........hmm.....RASHARD LEWIS....man...many more. And look at our baseball! Go Rice! Also STEPHEN JACKSON! Man...a bunch.....
