The Rockets have probably been victims of ref bias in past playoff series, in the Tim Donaghy scandal. So the Rockets have a right to doubt ref motives in the playoffs. From wikipedia:

"On June 11, 2008 , Donaghy alleged in a statement through his lawyers that several series in the NBA Playoffs had been improperly refereed according to the NBA's instructions. He alluded specifically to a playoff game where "personal fouls [resulting in obviously injured players] were ignored even when they occurred in full view of the referees" because "it was in the NBA's interest to add another game to the series."[15] The game referred to was widely believed to be Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings, in which the Lakers shot 27 free throws in the fourth quarter.[16] Donaghy also referred to a playoff series where "Team 3's Owner alleged that referees were letting a Team 4 player get away with illegal screens. NBA Executive Y told Referee Supervisor Z that the referees for that game were to enforce the screening rules strictly against that Team 4 player."[15] The playoff series was believed to be the first-round encounter between the Houston Rockets and the Dallas Mavericks in the 2005 NBA Playoffs. The Rockets led 2–0 in the series before losing in 7 games,[17] and then-Rockets head coach Jeff Van Gundy was fined $100,000 for stating that a referee was targeting Houston center Yao Ming."

    Sir....
"it's difficult to be a ref"
"I'm sure it affected both teams equally"
"The Rockets should have tried harder"
    etc

The whole argument of the refs being bad on both ends will always be true. However, they seem to be bad at our expense in important crunch time possessions.

Much like the Lin turnover. I've heard arguments that ot shouldn't have ever come to that possession. Harden did bad this and Bev did bad that. But at the end of the day, you crunch time is crunch time. If you're put in a situation to win the game, then you have to answer the call.

FACT: Game 1, NBA said "Oops Sorry" to Howard's foul-out in OT w/ 10.8 seconds left that would have given the Rockets 2 FTs instead of Portland. We were down by 1. Dwight would have at least hit 1, maybe 2...and still be on the court to defend.

FACT: Game 4, NBA said "Oops Sorry" to Phantom Technical on Howard that awarded Portland 1 point in a game that went into OT because of that 1 point.

We should be 3-1, not 1-3, with worthless official NBA apologies as proof on record. Portland has a big list of poor officiating against them, and we do too on our side. But we have the 2 official on record apologies that concede that 2 Portland Ws should be Ls. It's crap. Nearly 10 years removed from the Finley-Barry Rockets-Mavs injustice and these fools still can't get it right. Give coaches challenge flags or cards. Put another ref on the floor. Allow refs more replays and to use replays to give or takeaway fouls. Disclose accountability measures against refs to the fans.

Karl Malone's bear hug, Michael Finley's bounds don't apply, now 2 losses where the NBA admits the refs tripped on their d**ks. Basketball reasons.

G1 was very badly officiated, but that 1st half has key to Blazer not getting blown out. I said Ref was very influential in G1 against the Rocket. Fairly officiated game and we probably would have a very good chance of winning.

G2, Portland just play better. I don't recall ref being a major force, even with all the tic tac foul for LMA and all the no call on Howard. Ref might swing a bit on the Portland side, but not significant.

G3, nothing significant. Howard was actually officiated much better.

G4, nothing significant. That Tech on Howard is wrong, but overall, it wasn't close to being the deciding factor.

One very bad game. 3 alright. No bad, but still, G1 leave a bad taste and in general, NBA ref sucks. Can't wait for the time with centralize monitoring and observation to get calls more corrected... plus a way for team to protect to get call reviewed.

Because both teams are so evenly matched, there should be an emphasis on making sure the calls are right OR they will affect the outcome! Bad officiating has cost us two games! I'll repeat, "Bad officiating has cost us two games"! As bad as Harden has played, along with Lin's bonehead mistakes, had the officials made the right call, we would be at the very worst be tied 2-2, instead of being down 3-1!

Portland Deckard can go smoke some more pot , or whatever they do up there, and stop trying to convince people that the refs didn't put us in this hole!

Why not? Can you explain why the league doesn't want the Houston Rockets to advance? Is it because of all the international fans and extra revenue the NBA would bring in from China/Taiwan if the Rockets were to go deep in the playoffs?

Houston is the 4th largest TV market in the west. The Rockets Finals are like the highest rated Finals not involving Jordan or the Lakers. This series and OKC/Grizz have the highest ratings of the playoffs. It's in the league's best interest to push Houston in the playoffs so customers put pressure on local providers to deal with CSN. (Setting precedent for the next team's TV deal)

If ever there was a conspiracy, the first teams to benefit would be Dallas over San Antonio, Houston over Portland, and OKC over Memphis.

Stupid article. The officiating isn't even remotely close to even. How many times has the NBA had to issue a statement about screwing up game changit calls for Portland?
