So I've contracted a company to deal with all the licensing of the video, 60/40 split. I've had offers from 250-$350 to buy full Rights flat out. That makes me think there's the possibility to make more. That was when I had 30k views, and it's now quadrupled. We shall see and I'll make sure to update y'all. While I work in the entertainment industry, this is all brand spanking new to me. I also have had this idea to play the iPhone game HEADS UP with strangers on the MTA, so I will probably have to get started on that ASAP. Thanks for the support! This cracks me up.
Dude, that is a horrible split! The majority of partner affiliation companies will do a 70 - 30 split at the maximum. 80 - 20 or 90 - 10 OR tell the company to move along. Plus make sure you get to keep all rights if they are only trying to get you to give them the one video in a split.
I had other places offer me 90/10 but they seemed more like start-ups. Also, this is the first time this has happened to me (or anyone I know), and it's a world I'm completely ignorant to. They also respond to all my emails within 10 minutes and have done well explaining what's going on. I'm not too upset. I can also ditch them with a 30 day notice. I just want to give them a chance because I have 0 time to commit to marketing this video atm...60/40 split doesn't seem too bad to me when licensing it ranges anywhere from $250 for web use to $1000+ for tv use. I'll take $600 for a random 15 seconds of unplanned footage. All rights will be 100% mine. I've already seen them take the video down from other sites that used it without permission. And I wouldn't mind them getting me on Good Morning America *crossing fingers*
