How is coming from a different generation an excuse for bigotry? You are human. You have the ability to adapt. Use that ability.

It was just weird bc there was a debate going on about property rights, tax rights, public use land, state vs. federal taxes, and endangered species and dude chimes in with "all you people in this thread will be crucified in the future" acting like he's the only old person on the board. I would wager he's not alone in his age group on this board. That's just weird. Then he plays the victim card and alludes to self-banning...weird again. I would wager he posts again, but I won't see it bc those angry posts didn't add anything to the D&D at all other than anger.

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/bundy-ranch-militia-checkpoints-horsford

A Democratic congressman from Nevada said in a letter this week that his constituents have reported the armed militia supporting rancher Cliven Bundy have set up checkpoints to verify the residency of anybody passing through.

Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV), who represents the area, sent the letter Sunday to Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie, asking him to investigate.

"I am writing to bring your attention to the ongoing situation in northeastern Clark County which has caused many of my constituents to fear for their safety," Horsford wrote. Residents in the area "have expressed concern over the continual presence of multiple out-of-state, armed militia groups that have remained in the community" since Bundy's dispute with the Bureau of Land Management came to a boil.

The militia, as reported by Horsford's constituents, "have set up checkpoints where residents are required to prove they live in the area before being allowed to pass," the letter said.

They have also maintained a presence, sometimes armed, along highways and roads, as well as community sites like churches and schools, the letter asserted.

Journalists on the scene at the height of the Bundy Ranch standoff estimated as many as 1,000 protesters had gathered earlier this month.

    ^^^ Oh man!

This is going to be fun!

Burning Man organizer plans anything-goes ‘Bundyfest’ to mock scofflaw rancher

Some of the organizers of the annual Burning Man festival are planning an event aimed at mocking the claims of a Nevada rancher who refuses to pay government-mandated fees for using federal lands.

“For years, we paid permitting fees to hold Burning Man on the beautiful Playa in Northern Nevada,” said the event’s organizers on a Facebook page. “But now, Cliven Bundy has shown us a NEW WAY! ABSOLUTE FREEDOM! Bundy has declared the entire area surrounding Bundy Ranch as a TOTALLY RULES-FREE ZONE! ANYTHING GOES! WOO-HOO!!!”

Progressive activist Sean Shealy said Bundyfest, which will be held across the road from Bundy’s ranch in Bunkerville, Nevada, for one month starting on Sept. 5.

Shealy said organizers expect about 50,000 people to show up in the desert near Bundy’s home.

Where were you in 72 when the barrell acid was $10, old people sent us to die for nothing, and peace and love looked like a doable future? What was the disconnect that turned you to a Fauxhead?

I was in high school when they combined the Black school and the White school. I saw the bigotry, hate and fear close-up and personal from all my friends and family. And I saw that it turned out to be completely unjustified.

Sh** man, were were going to change things but nothing changed.

I'd like to know why college kids that protest get pepper sprayed and dragged off in handcuffs but when these right wing nutballs do it the police are standing by to ensure their first amendment rights as they break the law.

Dozens of protesters ride in off-limits canyon
    http://news.yahoo.com/dozens-protesters-ride-off-limits-canyon-215140976.html

Dozens of people rode their ATVs and motorcycles on an off-limits trail in southern Utah in a protest against what the group calls the federal government's overreaching control of public lands.

San Juan County Sheriff Rick Eldredge said from 40 to 50 people, many of them waving American flags and some carrying weapons, drove about a mile down Recapture Canyon near Blanding Saturday and then turned around. Hundreds attended a rally at a nearby park before the protest.

"It was peaceful, and there were no problems whatsoever," the sheriff told The Associated Press.

About 30 deputies and a handful of U.S. Bureau of Land Management law enforcement personnel watched as protesters drove past a closure sign and down the canyon located about 300 miles southeast of Salt Lake City.

San Juan County Commissioner Phil Lyman, the protest's organizer, has said it was designed to show that the federal agency isn't the "supreme authority" and local residents have a right to have their opinions heard.

"We're not proponents of breaking the law," Lyman told The Salt Lake Tribune before the ride. "Just because BLM owns the property, that doesn't mean they own the right-of-way that exists."

Recapture Canyon is home to dwellings, artifacts and burials left behind by Ancestral Puebloans as many as 2,000 years ago before they mysteriously vanished.

The riders may have damaged artifacts and dwellings that "tell the story of the first farmers in the Four Corners region" of Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado, BLM Utah State Director Juan Palma said in a statement.

"The BLM was in Recapture Canyon today collecting evidence and will continue to investigate," Palma said. "The BLM will pursue all available redress through the legal system to hold the lawbreakers accountable."

The group's act of defiance marks the latest illustration of growing tension between angry rural Western residents and the federal government over management of public lands.

The protest occurred nearly a month after Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and his supporters, some of them armed militia members, thwarted a BLM roundup of his cattle near Bunkerville, Nevada, 75 miles northeast of Las Vegas. Bundy, a states' rights advocate who refuses to acknowledge the authority of the federal government, owes more than $1 million in fees and penalties for letting his cattle use government land over the past 20 years.

As a Kane County sheriff's deputy watches from a horse, ATV riders make their way into Recapture …

Some of Bundy's children and militia supporters also took part in the protest in Recapture Canyon.

"This is where it's happening Saturday," Bundy backer Ryan Payne of Montana told the Las Vegas Sun. "This is a continuation of the Bundy affair."

BLM officers recorded and documented protesters who traveled into the closure area, Palma added.

The agency warned riders all week to stay out, vowing prosecution against those who ignore a law put in place in 2007 after an illegal trail was found that cuts through the ancestral ruins. The canyon is open to hikers and horseback riders.

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert also urged people to uphold the law.

A 14-mile section of trail in the canyon is closed to motorized vehicles, BLM officials said, but there are more than 2,800 miles of trails open to them on public lands around Blanding.

Environmentalists and Native Americans criticized the protest ride, saying the ban is needed to preserve fragile artifacts. Mark Maryboy, a former Navajo Nation Council delegate, called it disappointing that the group had no respect for Native American culture.

"The American tradition of civil disobedience doesn't change the fact that the rule of law needs to mean something," Josh Ewing of the conservation group Friends of Cedar Mesa told The Tribune. "I'll be very disappointed in my government if it doesn't follow through on upholding the law."

Motorized access to Recapture Canyon and other areas in Utah's wilderness has been a source of tension for decades. ATV riders rode another off-limits trail in 2009 in a protest. The Bureau of Land Management gave information about the riders to federal prosecutors, but no charges were filed.

For its part, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office said on its Facebook page that it will have deputies at the canyon Saturday "to keep the peace and protect the Constitutional rights of everyone involved. We feel this will be a peaceful event and encourage everyone to be respectful to one another and allow individuals to exercise their First Amendment right.”

I think you already know. Guns and supporters who will cause uproar, violence, and further instability. If all colleges were united, and the students armed, with supporters across the state and the nation who likely would cause mayhem if a single one of them was touched, then yeah you'd see similar results.

To effectively rebel and/or protest, you need unity and huge numbers. The threat of violence helps too. It's a topic for another day, but MLK needed Malcom X et al.

They made the right decision not to confront these nutbags with force. That would be disastrous. Better to take them to court and confiscate their electronic assets and through other means.

But at some point, the federal gov't has to take action if it goes too far.

God told him to stand up to the Feds.

Rancher: Standoff with feds a spiritual battle

ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy claims the April confrontation between the federal government and his armed supporters was part of an age-old spiritual battle between good and evil.

Bundy, a Mormon, told an Independent American Party gathering in St. George, Utah, on Saturday that God provided him personal inspiration in the showdown over cattle in Bunkerville, Nevada, about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas.

"The Lord told me ... if (the local sheriff doesn't) take away these arms from federal agents, we the people will have to face these arms in a civil war. He said, 'This is your chance to straighten this thing up,'" Bundy said, according to The Spectrum of St. George (http://bit.ly/1pRx8nq ).

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management backed down in the standoff, citing safety concerns. Bundy's allies subsequently released the 380 cattle collected from the range during a weeklong operation.

BLM officials have said Bundy will be held accountable for his role in the standoff and they continue to pursue the matter "aggressively through the legal system." The case remains under investigation by the FBI and U.S. Justice Department.

Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie has said Bundy crossed the line when he allowed states' rights supporters, including self-proclaimed militia members, onto his property to aim guns at police.

The federal agency says Bundy owes over $1 million in fees and penalties for trespassing on federal property without a permit over 20 years. Bundy, a states' rights advocate, refuses to acknowledge federal authority on public lands.

Bundy said people from across the country rallied around him because they were "spiritually touched," and he suggested they would not have prevailed had God not been on their side.

"If the standoff with the Bundys was wrong, would the Lord have been with us?" he asked, noting no one was killed as tensions escalated. "Could those people that stood (with me) without fear and went through that spiritual experience ... have done that without the Lord being there? No, they couldn't."

About 100 to 120 people attended Saturday's gathering, and Bundy questioned why more people were not present.

"Where is all of your college students? Where's our young and where's our old? Where's our black and where's our brown?" he asked. "Where are you people? Aren't you interested in freedom and liberty?"

Other Bundy family members talked about how they fasted and prayed for the spirit of their forefathers to be with them as they prepared on horseback to defy the Bureau of Land Management's efforts to impound the cattle.
