I agree that what the Rockets did in '95 is completely singular in the world of sports.

I've been an avid sports fan since I was maybe 10, and I can't think of anything that quite compares to what that Rockets team did.

the '95 Rockets' accomplishment probably suffers image-wise from having been a little too unique. its uniqueness lends people to thinking it flukish.

the standard, accepted pattern for bestowing greatness [as accepted by your average NBA fan, I'm saying] is that you one Dynasty establishes itself, and the team that knocks off that Dynasty is rewarded with the presumption of greatness when it knocks them off.

that's what the 80s Celtics, 80s Lakers, 80s Pistons, and 90s Bulls all did.

come to think of it, the 00s Lakers didn't actually knock off any Dynasties, either. but they are in LA, and they have Kobe the Diva, so they play by a different set of rules.

anyway, now I'm on a tangent.

sadly, if we're trying to wage a war to get the '94-'95 Rockets the respect and attention they deserve, I'm just seeing that that's not a war we'll win.

and I'm trying to make my peace with the reasons why.

also, as a Spurs fan in a Mavericks town, Miller has to ally himself with his constituency by bashing on their common enemies: the Rockets, the Lakers, etc.

but I think you're definitely right in calling him out on his veiled intentions.
