At this point I am not sure if I would. Especially if Shandon is asking for big dollar contract. I know he signed with us for below market deal. But he has not proven to me that he is deserving of a top dollar contract of a starting shooting guard. I 'm assuming that the Rockets could find a more cost effective replacement for Shandon during the off-season. ------------------ Titan's fanatic!!!! It was the first time the Titans sent an offense to the line of scrimmage with Eddie George in the backfield behind McNair to go with Wycheck at tight end and Carl Pickens, Kevin Dyson and Yancey Thigpen at wide receiver. So many choices, with a full season still ahead. "I think that might be scary for a defense," Dyson said.
Despite his defensive presence, I don't see him wanting to return to Houston. He simply doesn't fit our style of offense as evidenced by a lack of production. It seems his role has been limited to bad 3-pt shooting which just isn't his game. He needs the ball swung around to him so he can take it to the hoop or penetrate and dish. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
Rudy took him out of the game after only 3 min last night and put in a hurt Cuttino Mobley. I did not agree with that at all I think he should have played at least the whole first quarter. ------------------ Agent
I don't think Shandon's coming back. Rudy wouldn't make him ride pine if he saw Shandon as an integral part of the Rockets future. Either that, or Shandon's still recovering from the loss of his mother. Either way, things don't look too good. ------------------ It doesn't matter if I have a signature!

Actually he came in with about 7 minutes to go in the first quarter because Shandon picked up his 2nd fould ------------------ Rockets Season Ticket Holder
Shandy probably isn't coming back. If he was, rudy T would give him more PT. Although this is very sad, Shandy has brought this upon himself. His horrendous dribbling makes him a liability on the fast break and on the frive. His lack of outside touch means he can't shoot from the outside. In other words, he has neither an inside or an outside game. If he wants to play more, he has to improve his dribblin or shootin, hopefully both. ------------------
I think Shandon has some great skillz. He is excellent at finishing the brake, playing 'D' and posting up. I have to agree however that he will probably not be back next year. While I think he has better all around skillz than Cat, I do not think he fits our system as well. I also think Rudy starts Shandon mostly because thats how talked him into coming here. With Shandon gone he will start Mobley and not have to worry about any agreement he may have had with Shandon about starting. ------------------
I don't want Anderson to leave and I don't think he will. He's in a serious funk right now and RT has cut his minutes accordingly. However, he showed what he could do last year and I'd be ready to give him a contract based on that. Even so, I don't think this funk will last all year -- we're only a quarter through the season. My theory on his re-signing stays like this: he'll use his option year to be underpaid again and the Rockets will use their cap space on either Mo Taylor (please no) or on the market. He'll then sign a Bird contract the following year for a pretty respectable sum. Another option he has is to opt out of the contract and -- once the Rockets use up their cap space -- sign again for the mid-level exception which should be about 4 million. ------------------ RealGM Rockets Draft Obligations Summary http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
rewriting history, again. It was the 6 minutes into the game, and Shandon picked up 2 fouls. geeze people, let's just invent our own history to make our points easier. Shandon is showing little ability to protect the ball, whether dribbling or passing. His lack of offense is due to one thing and one thing only: His lack of interest in improving his basic skills? You cannot run plays for this guy, and he is not succeeding in penetration as much as last year. If he would, he would get his 40 minutes back like Rudy gave him in April last year. Here's some History: Shandon averaged 39mpg last April. I don't mind a defensive stud getting those minutes AT ALL. IMO, it would do wonders for this team. But, his offense is horrible right now. And, it is not because he isn't involved in our motion. He is more than just a spot-up 3ptr. But, damn he looks so indecisive with the ball. Sorry, cato13, I didn't see your rebuttal to Agent. Alright, this has to go. Shandon is not even our 6th best post-up player. The only reason you see Shandon in the low post is because it is one of the few safe places for him to handle the ball, and defenses don't mind letting him have it there. Mobley and Francis cannot get that position as easy, nor do I really look to place them there. Shandon in the low post as a Rocket's offensive solution is pretty lame, imo. Shandon has bad dribbing and that severely hampers our ability to run offense through him. He needs to decide to be Eddie Jones, or not. Jones shooting improved tremendously since his first year. Shandon isn't showing improvement this year, at all, shooting, dribbling, low post spins, whatever. He is not as good as last year. And quit protecting this guy, because you like his demeanor or something. He is not improving. It isn't Rudy's fault, or our playmakers.
"Gentleman's agreement" or not, he still needs to earn his money. Hell, I could give the Rockets what he's giving them and for much less money!! ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris Fan Club - est. 99-00
live, "The problem is, Cat's not good enough to start either." for the record, when I say Cat might start soon, I'm talking about yanking Walt, not Shandon. I think Shandon needs more playing time to improve our D and our pitiful transition game. What Bullard and Walt give our half-court game, Shandon can give to our transition game.
The only thing Shan has been able to do recently is play D. He has flashes of brilliance (against Dallas a few weeks ago), but for the most part has sucked offensively. I dont know if he is still pissed about his mom or what, but he needs to sack up and take it to the rim. The dude has loads of potential and he needs to show what he is capable of. ------------------ "Chucky who?" Charles Barkley
No question, Mobley has improved his D. He seems to handle a lot of the small forwards pretty well and most big guards. I think he can and should start IF Shandon keeps up the no show. ------------------ Sometimes you gotta do the next best thing! [This message has been edited by ROXRAN (edited December 20, 2000).]
HeyP You a lil hard on the Beev . . er. . Shandon I too am beginning to question him I mean . . .I cannot even phathom the lost of a parent much less two. maybe they should give him a few weeks off to greive. I know shandon is better than what we seeing He needs to make a decision to play ball play good ball. . and just do it. . . Rocket River ------------------
I have to agree wholeheartedly with you, heypartner. Shandon seems like a nice guy and you have to like what he brings as a defensive player, but his offense is not enough to merit starting any longer. Right now, it's 4 on 5 when the Rockets have the ball, and with Walt struggling and Mo's erratic play, it's often 1 or 2 on 5. The problem is, Cat's not good enough to start either. He just isn't athletic enough or big enough to matchup with the better 2 guards in the league. Whether he likes it or not, his ideal spot in the rotation is 6th man. I remember telling friends last summer that the guy the Rockets should have drafted, but weren't due to issues involving players at that position (Cat's contract, Shandon's playing-time) was Alexander from Fresno. He was the best available player at that point, and easily one of the best offensive players in the entire draft. He's as good an athlete as Shandon and as good with the ball as Cat, while bringing the potential to score in the post and to become a solid defender. So, hypothetically, what if the Rockets worked a trade for him involving Cato and/or picks? And before someone starts crying about Cato being our future at C, let me remind you that this upcoming draft will be loaded with C/PF types who bring the same qualities that Cato has (athleticism, shot-blocking, size), including Ken Johnson, Dalembert?, Chenowtih, Gadzuric, Woods, Haywood, etc. From my point of view, the Rockets shouldn't be hesitant to trade a role player like Cato, especially if it could bring a potential starter like Alexander in return. Make a move for Alexander using Cato and take your chances in the draft/free agency (Davis?) finding a C/PF is my prescription for the Rockets. ------------------ "ON-BEE-TAH-BULL!!", Hakeem Abdul Olajuwon, alumnus, University of Houston
Overreaction. First: Shandon doesn't walk to another team without his agent's blessing. He took a major paycut to come to a team that sucked last year and will barely make the playoffs this year, after he played in the finals a couple of times with the Jazz. The Rockets made a "gentleman's agreement" about his payoff down the line, and there is no going back on it, period. If he goes to another team, it is because Shandon, the team, and his agent all agree that he should do so. You absolutely do not make the kind of agreement the Rocks made with Shandon and then trade him or let him go; it would be free-agent suicide. Second: Shandon is in a slump. Shandon is in a slump. Shandon is in a slump. We already know that he can play perfectly in his system because he already did last April. This is not frikkin Space Jam; aliens didn't come and steal his game. He will regain his confidence and give us what he did before. He is just as able to thrive off of Cat and Steve's ability to penetrate as Bullard and Wizard. Has Rudy taken away his starting position? No. He has to earn his minutes back, just like Wizard did last year when he got out of his slump. One bad month of ball and suddenly he doesn't fit the system. He won't return. He needs to be traded. Nonsense. [This message has been edited by Nolen (edited December 20, 2000).]
You cannot make Mobley sit on the bench forever. His numbers are too good for that. If Mobley was on the 6th man on any other team in the NBA and was putting up the same numbers, he would be starting w/o a doubt. Face the facts Mobley will be a starter eventually. As much as I hate to say it, that leaves Anderson out in the cold and not a Rocket. I like Shandon and I think he would be much happier with a greater role on another team. ------------------
