Is there anything I can take to get rid of this middle of the back pain I am having? Its killing me no matter where I sit or stand. Im going to Matrix 2 tonight and dont want to be completely miserable and fidgety. Especially since Im taking a date.
Vicodin isn't nearly as good as a muscle relaxer. Of course, the two together....along with a few cocktails....just about always does the trick. Just make sure you aren't the one driving. lower back pain sucks.
Like I don't know?? Soma's and Vicodins together are a wonderful thing! When I had back surgery last year, the first night in the hospital I was given Vicodin 10 every six hours and a shot of morphine every six hours, staggered so that I was getting drugged every three hours. I was so out of it that I really couldn't enjoy it; however, the next morning I was a bit more lucid and they gave me one more morphine shot...hooboy, what a trip that was! Drewdog, here's an excellent back and spine health site: http://www.spine-health.com/
You're going to need a very speedy recovery if you have any hopes of 'consummating the date'. Just keep in mind, there are only two types of dates: 1) Discharge 2) No-discharge
Anything I can get over the counter? Vicodin is probably a little out of my league, considering I cant get a doctors prescription in time before my date.
Do opposite muscle exercises. Ex. If your back is aching, strengthen your stomach, that will relieve stress on your back. Ex. If your knees are hurting, work your hamstrings and calves. Stretch out every morning. I hurt my ankle pretty bad a year and a half ago and gained around 15 pounds. Then when I started playing b-ball again, my body would just ache. So i've actually started swimming laps to strengthen my whole body and not just bench and arms like most at the gym.
If you can't get a decent pain reliever and/or a muscle relaxer, I'd just take 800 mg of ibuprofin and several cocktails. Seriously, the alcohol will relax you somewhat....which is what your muscles need. I'm convinced that lower back pain is a vicious cycle....you're back hurts, so you tense up....which tightens the muscles and makes it worse. I've just about trained myself to relax when mine flares up. But it's not always enough....sometimes I need some help. That's where the muscle relaxers come in.
Thermacare heat pads. They stick to the area & provide 8 hrs of heat. They work, are available at most pharmacies, and are concealable under your clothes.
DD, Like Behad, I have had back surgery too, although it was 8 years ago. Over the counter, I found the best stuff was Aleive. Behad, What type of back injury did you have?
I'm getting good result with Tahitian Noni Juice-- natural anti-inflammatory. I've had a disc problem for 32 years.
Lumbar laminectomy for a herniated disc between L4-L5 AND a cervical discectomy with fusion between C6-C7...two weeks apart.
Isn't the stat something like 1/2 or 1/3 of all Americans will experience debilitating back pain at some point in their lives? Among other symptoms my leg went numb for a couple of days and I couldn't put any weight on it without a pretty sharp pain, but I got better after about six months. I'm not sure if anything made it go away except all the electromagnetic waves I got for the X-rays, MRIs and CAT scan.
I had almost the exact same thing you had (except no fusion). I had laminectomy and disectomy on all 5 lower disks (L1-L5). There is nothing sexier than a 21 year old single guy walking to the mailbox with a walker.
