I think Silas is a great coach, especially with all the crap he had to deal with in Charlotte and N.O. - the team moving, lack of fan support, mashburn injury, baron davis injury, contract situation. He won with a team built around 2 solid players whose styles don't go well together. Davis is an up and down attacker, Mash is a slow em down post up guy. Both guys need a lot of touches.

I think the perception is that he is a no-nonsense, disciplined coach who gets the respect of his players but doesn't have as high a cerebral basketball intelligence that a Larry Brown or Van Gundy has. This may be true or may not be true at all.

Also, the fact that his contract was not renewed (which is essentially the same as being fired) makes him look less desirable when both Larry Brown and JVG left on their own terms. It gives the impression that there is something wrong with him, when it could just be that the owner in N.O has a case of jackass disease.

I'll put it like this - Would you rather date a hot girl who has dumped every guy she's been with, or would you rather date a frumpy girl who was dumped by her ex and is now looking for a new guy? Well, Larry Brown and JVG are the hot girls and Silas is the frumpy one.

But that Cleveland team won. In fact that was the last time Cleveland won consistently.

The Czar is a great coach who unfortunately found himself stuck will with players like Bobby Phills (RIP), the-ugliest-man-in-the-nba and Terrel Brandon as his star players. Even Coach Larry Brown would have struggled with that team. The Czar's team's always overachieved - a testimony to his great coaching ability.

But like we all know, life is all about reputation and stigma. The Czar is stuck with one - Paul Silas is stuck with his share put.

Simply put I will puke if Paul Silas is our next head coach.

    Prediction

Larry Will be named Rockets coach tomorrow (Thursday). Doc Rocket back me up on this one.

Silas is the right coach for the right team.

A veteran team needing a strong, steady, understated hand. The 90s Rox perhaps, but not the 00s version.

Silas would look good in Philly but not Cleveland.
Silas would look good in Portland but not Clipperland.
Silas would look good in Milwaukee but not Denver.

If I were Abe 'The Jordan Ruler' Pollin I might take a close look at Paul Silas.

I think people are overstating the Hornets veterans. Ot the top 6 Hornets players, three were veterans.

Veterans: Jamal Mashburn, David Wesley, P.J. Brown
Non-veterans: Baron Davis, Jamaal Magloire, Courtney Alexander

Mashburn is an all-star but the rest ...

PJ average 11 ppg and 9 rpg. Good but not great numbers.

Wesley is over the hill, but his 16.7 ppg is very respectable (and may be indicative of how little scoring they get from their bench).

Given the top 6 players, I see a team that has to have a good season to make the playoffs.

For what it's worth, Charles Barkley said on TNT that he learned more about how to play basketball from Silas than any other coach he ever had. Silas was an assistant in Phoenix when Charles was there.

How many all star games did mashburn make before going to Charlotte? When did Eddie jones have his best yr? did anyone think Baron Davis could lead like he do? Did anyone think Magloire and even DC would play that well. How many coaches can lose their #1 scorer and still make it to the 2nd rd of the playoffs? This was done by the man no one wants to give a chance to,Paul Silas.

I think Brown will go to La. I hope we get Silas, but I'm still wondering how the Detroit asst can get a job before Jim Cleamons.

I think the problem with Fratello is that people just don't like him.

Haha, I agree. It's funny how people are so stubborn and stand by Brown while Silas would be a better option for the future of the Rockets. I think we'd make the playoffs with either, but once Brown is gone who knows? We might drop off again. Silas did a great job in NO/Charlotte considering the situation and is one of the best coaches in the L. He may be called a player's coach but he doesn't take crap, just ask Lee Nailon. I don't know if he's a great x's and o's coach like Eddie Jor...uh I mean Byron Scott, or Adelman's assistants, or even Nellie, but just about anyone is better than Rudy.
