My guess is that the team suggested that it would be wise for the players to stay away from public comments on this mess (until the NBA's investigation is finished or something) rather than ordered them not to talk.

I really don't think they have the power to really stop a guy from talking. How bad would the team look to free agents if they were to fine Dwight for talking badly about Donald Sterling?

    Exactly.

They can and should comment AFTER ALL THE FACTS ARE KNOWN, which means waiting on the NBA's investigation to finish before giving your thoughts.

This is a perfectly reasonable response and is the right thing to do.

Its the society around us who believes in instant reaction and forget that folks need to be put thru due process before condemning them.

Just chill and focus on the task at hand, which is winning 3 more games in a row against Portland.

The last thing we need right now is for one of our players saying something that's not supposed to be said and attract media circus!

    Let me help the media.

A black basketball player listens to a team owner rant about how he doesn't want his girlfriend associating with or bringing black folks to games. Calls Black people and Latino folk the enemy and talks to his girlfriend like a foul mouthed grub...how do you think the player feels?

It's important that the league takes a very firm stance on this to send a message to any other franchises with these issues. Seems like this guy has been getting away with stuff like this over his thirty years as the team owner. None of the inside sources with the NBA or media are surprised by the news of his views on race and other antics. It's embarrassing that they have been looking the other way for so long.

You know what's the last thing we need? The last thing we need is to piss off our players during a playoff series, and have other players think we treat our players like the organization controls every bit of their speech. This is absurd. The team should not be allowed to control players like this on the arbitrary basis that it may or may not hurt the team.

And i think the so called "investigation" could be to buy some time to suppress the issue until its less of an issue. I think it's more than likely that it was him on the phone. This issue should stir things up in galvanizing people against racist behavior. This is where players who are in the spotlight could make a difference in having an opinion.

i have no problem with rox franchise asking/telling their players not to comment on this. Nothing good can be gained by commenting on this and it IS a distraction.

to those who are all hurt about this directive from the rox, buy your own franchise and run it how you see fit.

Since Clutchfans believe that the twitterverse can solve real world problems ---

I'm sure Royce White has an opinion on this! Someone drop him a line.

It is smart. Saying something does nothing, it probably came from Silver. He tells the owners to make sure nobody comments and let the league deal with it.

They don't want them to comment, because then everyone will hear about how our coach, gm, and owner all hate Asians.
