You must have missed when I said the Rockets are the better option, BUT Chicago can clear the space easier. Houston would have to essentially dump both Asik & Lin for nothing (assuming the Knicks want neither) while Chicago only needs to dump Gibson.

Asik would not be hard to dump at all. A team like Phily would do it just so they could re-trade him at the deadline. Lin however is problematic. To trade Lin for no incoming salary would cost us drafts picks and/or international prospects. My guess would be Lin, '14 #1, Euro stash for cap space (from a team that has it).

I bet Morey goes after Melo but also inquires about Lowry. If Tor fears losing him in FA for nothing they might consider a lopsided S&T for him. Maybe something like Lin, '14 #1, D-Mo, Euro prospect/Cannan for Lowry.

Having '15 cap space is nice but Morey sees the writing on the wall. LMA is staying in Por and Love is going to LA. If Morey can make a splash this offseason at the expense of cap space in '15 he will.

Lets say you have to choose:
    1- Harden, Carmelo, Asik
    or
    2- Harden, Jones, Dwight

The fact that Carmelo wants "the Dwight Howard treatment" and is SERIOUS about looking at team's "future plans to win" is a good sign for the Rockets. All the chips the Rockets had to sway Howard are still here and of course, now they HAVE Howard as an additional building block. ;)

    Howard Treatment?:

With Mike Woodson now gone from the New York Knicks, side from finding his replacement, the primary focus of Phil Jackson and the team has turned toward making sure that Carmelo Anthony stays in the Big Apple, despite the fact that he’s indicated that he intends to use his opt-out clause to hit the market this summer.

And according to the Sporting News (h/t CBS Sports), when Anthony does hit that market, he wants the same treatment that Dwight Howard got last season prior to eventually signing with the Houston Rockets.

Free agency opens on July 1, and, the source said, Anthony would like, “the Dwight Howard treatment.” That means he wants to go through the same sort of process that Howard went through last summer, when Howard set up shop in Los Angeles and set up meetings with five teams—Houston, the Lakers, Dallas, Golden State and Atlanta—each of whom came in and made formal presentations.

Undoubtedly, there will be a lot of teams out in full force to try to land the services of Anthony, and that has been said to include the possibility of him heading to Chicago to help out Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and company.

Lin, Asik and TJones to the Knicks to compliment an already studly cast with Tyson Chandler, STAT, Shump, and some first round pick; and Phil Jackson in the front office? That's a playoff team in the East, guys. What's all this about about "tanking"?

I think we would have to give up a 1st rounder and maybe 2nd rounder as well, but you certainly do that.

The dream would still be Dirk, though. Trading Lin with Jones (and probably cash and a pick) would let us make a $10M or so offer. That team would be great for the next 2/3 years. Never happen, but fun to think about.

What does objectivity have to do with Melo's decision?

NO. I can tell you now. This is not a joke. It is a distinct possibility.

I'd rather wait til 2016 for Durant. We'd be handcuffing ourselves with the poison that is Melo if we're talking about a third max contract pipedream. If OKC can't get it done in the next 2 years, you'll begin to hear more rumors of Durant wants out to win the chip.

I fear that Phil Jackson will use Chicago as leverage to get his way with Houston if Melo decides to leave and agrees to sign-and-trade. Something as insidious as including Felton in the sign and trade. Ugh....

LOL. That's just an nightmare. Felton has 2 years left on his contract after this season ($4M/season). That's alot for deadweight.
