    This. I've seen Euros give puzzled looks when somebody asks for a to-go box. Then I've also seen those folks totally embrace it, pleasantly surprised. Same thing goes for free refills on soft drinks.

    Europe is like 40 years behind the US on service. :p

    But there's way less fatties there (except maybe the UK slobs), so maybe they're on to something.

    elsewhere it depends on the country in Asia, I've found.

    What if you take all your silverware and some of your dishes in the to go box?

    My college crib's kitchen was all Chilis: napkins, silverware, margarita shakers, ramekins, salsa & queso dishes, & to-go condiments/plasticware

    I had great service in the myriad of 'mom and pop' restaurants in Seoul I visited. I also found that the wait staff didn't seem to care if the customers would just yell out to them.
