If Rockets failed to pass the 1st round, I suggest they need to fire McFail. He sucks at coaching 4real.
Yes but coach don't just sit there and not tell his best player to jacking up shots all game long when that particular player is one of the best at drawing fouls....ESPECIALLY under crucial situation.
dude what's your beef with lin man, he played okay by the his recent going standards and wasn't the major contributor to the loss.
da ****? seriously though, that thought never occurs to Mchale because he believes in his system of run n gun or iso Harden, if he starts telling his players to box out or run a set play his head will probably explode.
The final sequences of that game illustrated the problems with McHale. 1) Harden taking that 3 before the final shot was terrible. You either need a coach that can run a play there or a coach that is strong enough to get Harden not to take terrible shots like that. 2) The Blazers made Harden work his butt off just to get the inbounds pass which always got him stuck in a bad situation. On the flip side, the Blazers had no trouble getting Lillard the ball on the inbounds and each time he was receiving the ball in a position to destroy his man who was falling all over himself. The Rockets are a good team but there is no coaching to maximize them or limit their opponents. It's basically just "here's our system now go out and beat them." Not forcing the ball out of Lillard's hands was crazy.
Playing for a championship team does not translate into being a great(or even competent) head coach. In fact more often than not, great former NBA players turn out to be terrible coaches. Isiah was awful as both a GM and a coach. Magic was a bad coach in his brief stint running the Lakers. The jury's still out on Jason Kidd. And obviously McHale has his deficiencies. Honestly the only recent Hall of Famer I can think of who was a really good coach was Larry Bird with the Pacers.
McHale's game plan against Blazers stars... Lillard - Plan A) Beverley, Plan B) Beverley is awesome, plan A will never fail Aldridge - Plan A) T-Jones, Plan B) Asik, Plan C) Parsons and Harden. I swear I'm not making this up and I'm not joking. Its so funny because its TRUE! BWAAAAAAHAHAHA!
McHale is just a gimmick coach. He has no game plans, no ability to make decisions on the go, can't think on his feet. Basically just an incompetent coach. He should have gone way back about the time we for Harden. And Dwight was coming here irrespective. McHale had a very small part in DH coming here. It was mainly the dream, Parsons, Harden and a young roster
The difficulty getting Harden the ball down the stretch on an inbounds play from the sideline was nuts. As justtxyank said, the Blazers had no such problems getting Lillard the ball.
During crunchtime, opposing coaches know 95.94835% of the time where the ball's going. How about trying something a little less predictable?
Yeah, that had to be the most awkward postgame spot for a coach. * You're the home team that has owned the regular season matchup. * 10 point lead with about five minutes to play. * a lead in OT. * Their en fuego player fouls out. McHale is not a dumb man at all, and if you add up this situation, everyone with knowledge of basketball will be asking hard questions about the coach. So you get to the podium and realize you just took a coaching dump out there in front of them all. Here's hoping he has a good inter-game war room session with his assistants! Go Rox!
Rockets doesn't hv to fire him, I'm sure mchale is valuable, morey shall find him a position, personal trainer, mentor, etc
This game reminded me of the our series against the Jazz with Tmac and Yao. Van Gundy refused to adjust and Mehmet Okur and Carlos Boozer looked like the second coming of Wilt Chamerlain/Bill Russel against Yao Ming. I'm still cautiously optimistic about the series, but if we lose in the first round for any reason McHale needs to be canned. Only problem is finding a proven coach. Can't waste a couple of years grooming some young guy.
QFT - the contrast in the sideline out-of-bounds plays the Rockets run and the Blazers run is stark to say the least. The Blazers got two great looks off of similar action at the end of the game (Lillard and Matthews). Additionally, Lillard got free on the baseline as well in another dead ball situation. Stotts worked for Carlisle in Dallas and they always had great in-bound plays that got the team great looks. I think Morey understands this, but is caught with the whole McHale as a mentor to D12 thing. Maybe D12 goes to Morey and helps make his decision easier?!
