Look, I have always been a Rudy supporter. That being said, where is Rudy likely to go in upper management.

Scout: Would be good here, but would be a HUGE step down.
G.M.: We already know that C.D. isn't going anywhere.
Co G.M.: THis is the only job I see Rudy taking.

Does anyone else know of a "legitimate" job Rudy would take in "upper management?"

    Thoughts?

His passion seems to be coaching.. if all is well healthwise, look for him to coach again by 2005, possibly in the area he grew up in - Detroit.

Im thinking maybe create some type of program that tends to the commitments made to the chinese basketball system over there.. you know a coordinated plan that makes sure we honor all the commitments made to those guys over there.. I mean we do want to keep those dudes happy over there to keep things smooth with Yao and his agents and that revolving group of Yao exploiters.. have Rudy as the head honcho overseeing the whole China Basketball Connection with Yao and have Rudy keep those guys in line over there because he gets a lot of respect from those dudes in the far east.. then maybe he can be Yaos personal something in some sort of capacity.. maybe he can help Yao americanize those quotes a bit.. make 'em sound less poetic and more like funny texan one-liners instead.. maybe he can be Yao's personal Colin Pine ass kicker.. for instance, anytime Colin Pine walks in on Yao while he's making it with his gal.. or Coling Pine beats Yao at enforcer 5 and boasts about it.. Yao can inform Rudy, and the next day at the new arena, Rudy can beat the living hell out of Colin Pine!.. thats just a few ideas, im sure theres tons of other things he could do.

The answer to this question will be determined solely by Rudy's health. Even if he recovers, an experience like this often leads to a person taking a look at themselves in the mirror. Maybe Rudy will decide he wants to stop and smell the flowers, spend time with his family. The hectic travel schedule of the NBA would not allow that to happen. Don't be surprised if we've seen the last of Tomjanovich. Just because he teared up at the press conference doesn't necessarily mean he's still holding on to the game.

The new coach will have final call on personnel not Rudy or CD. And that is the way it should be.

I'm trying not to attack people personally but this is just a stupid classless thing to say.

Donnie Nelson one upped MJ. When Denver was talking to him about coaching the Nuggets last summer Cuban made him the President of Basketball Operations. :D Maybe that could be Rudy T's new title.

I am not sure why CD is such a sure bet, didn't he help pick the current team of underachievers and reward some outrageously (Moochie/Maloney/Taylor) or was that Les?

exactly, i think when you look at the astros, Gerry Hunsicker is one of the better GM's considering the payroll and etc...

On the other end i see Carroll Dawson. He was a great assistant coach but GM isn't his bright spot. He has signed some guys to questionable contracts. Mo Taylor, Moochie Norris, Kelvin Cato all signed by CD. He's like the Steve Phillips of basketball.

You could take it both ways, but obviously you chose to take the negative way. Rudy IMO should relax and enjoy life is what I meant. The man is battling cancer and he's entitled to drink some beer while getting paid as if there's a job as a beer scout. Geez people can't understand a joke without a smiley these days.

Considering RudyT had a lot of pull in assembling this mess of players I'd prefer he have very little to do with player evaluation or GM duties. I think he'd help the organization most by doing some behind the scenes work luring free agents and such. Players around the league seem to like and respect him so let's not waste that.

I would LOVE to see Van Gundy as head coach, Dunleavy and Rudy as assistants!!

It would be like the similar situarion in Dallas, where Del Harris is one of Nellie's assistants.

That would probably be the best coaching staff ever, LOL!!!

Why not have Lucas there also.

Hey, would Boylen and Mean stay or go with a new head coach?

I can almost guarantee that he will be called a 'consultant'. Same sort of job Bill Walsh had with the Niners before he took over again. They might invent a new title for him, he might be even called an assistant GM, but he'll be a consultant. I think his duties will depend a bit on the security of the new coach; Brown would not feel threatened by RUdy breaking down film, etc. as he alluded to in his press conference, as there is great mutual respect, but Brown is the bigger dog. Dunleavy a little less so, but probably ok. Riley is a bit of a control freak, but he's secure enough. JVG, RIvers and others might not appreciate a 'former' coach hovering over their shoulder. Silas I am unsure about; apparently he worked well under Wilkens wing, but he also hasn't been around long enough to feel all that secure.
